So far I've tried SW#3, 5, and 9. All three for some reason allow the truck to start much much much better when cold. This afternoon I went out and started the truck w/o plugging it in. Temp was 0*F, hadn't been above 0*F since sometime last night. It cranked no longer than usual for a WARM start and then popped right off. Went right to 1000rpm.

My truck has never liked to start when it's that cold out. Usually starting in those temps involves a lot of bucking, kicking and a fair amount of smoke, typically bluish. Today I got a nice push of black and that was it. I'm attributing the black smoke to SW#9, there was no black on either of the other two levels.

Lately I had the Juice out for a couple weeks and with no mods other than intake and exhaust, it didn't start this nice. The Juice didn't help nor harm cold starts. It now sits on the shelf waiting for me to sell it.

Anybody else seeing improved cold starts.

BTW I'll normally plug the truck in when it gets this cold, actually around 20 or so I'll start plugging it in. I had to start it once w/o being plugged in since I got the Smarty so I thought I'd try it a few more times in this nice cold weather. I gotta say I'm extremely impressed.

Mine starts ten times better with the smarty compared to the E. Z. I still try to plug it in as much as I can, but while at work(12 hour shifts) it doesn't bother it anymore. It's been in the high teens here in MO.

the last few days it has been under 15 degrees here and since i am in an apartment i dont have the luxury of plugging in my truck... so far I have been able to start my truck up to 15 below :) i have noticed it starts better with the smarty as well

Anybody have any guesses as to why?
I thought since I have a truck with 192K on the odo that's why the cold starts suck.

Now it starts as good as new.

White smoke doesn't bother me. It's the bluish stinky crap I'm not real fond of. Not a lot of either now.

I thought it was the added timing, since the e. z. didn't add timing, and it didn't like starting w/o the smarty, but maybe not?

I just installed my Smarty over the weekend and I think I agree, my truck starts better with the Smarty. What I found odd was, it seems to cycle the heating grid for a shorter time before turning off also.

By the way, my truck starts far better cold on Blue Sun B20 than it ever did on straight #2.

I've got a question as to what the smarty is ? I've got a 1998 12 valve and i've gotta plug mine in for it to start easy and there's always white smoke and alot of bucking and she sounds pretty rough

It's a programmer. Won't do you much good other than a $685 paperweight.

Added timing helps with cold starts. The first gen trucks had a cold start advance solenoid. That is why they start better than the second gen 12v do.

Caleb,,,, this is electronics that your 12v does not have. But, you you are blessed with one of the greatest engines to ever grace a Pickup...

I think adv. pump timming helps cold start. I have rokktech crank sensor (full adv. ) it cold start cranks better with this. Also edge juice makes no extra power tell the water temp is 160 deg. I am still waiting on my smarty jr. Oo.
