Buddy of mine has Smarty, his truck is 01, HO, 6 spd - sweet truck.

Anyway, I've been wanting to try Smarty for some time now and last night we "tried" :{ to install and received Error Unknown Software on Smarty's display? WTF?

We tried at least 8 or 9 times and kept getting this Error. Walked over to his truck and plugged in Smarty worked as it was supposed to?

So whatdaya thinks goin on? Only BOMBs are as noted in my signature and I've only had the trans reflashed at the dealer because after DTT I had a way to soon 1-2 shift and Bill K recommemded trans flash - as usual he was correct.

DUH! The only thing that Smarty may be seeing is (Silver Ram 01 when you read this it just dawned on me) I have two DTT boxes, one is for the OD hunting issue I was having way before I was DTT'ed and the other is a DTT box that came w/Trans overhaul.

Let me know what you guys think.

I'll bet you do not have ABS brakes on your truck. My Smarty did the same thing on my friend's 98. 5 5-speed with no ABS. We were able to load the fueling programs, checked his codes, but the Smarty gave us the same error when loading the ABS tire correction.

I don't have ABS and my smarty works fine.

My guess is he has another software from a superchips or something in there. My buddy has a superchips and I can't even pull the coedes:confused:

do you have an aftermarket morpar ecm maybe? Smarty wants to know who it is talking to before smarty will say anything.

Smarty asks the ecm for it's software code to know which set of softwares to use.

This is a safety feature to prevent killing an ecm.

There is a key trick built into smarty that will let you read your ecm code.

Joe, for some reason your ecm code is not known to smarty hence the "unknown software" cold shoulder :-laf

Better safe than sorry right?

Bob - My buddy thought you would have the answer. :-laf

Interesting that there may be an aftermarket ecm in it:confused: . As far as I know it shouldn't, because the previous owner always maintained it at the dealer. I bought it in 01 w/75k and now have 154k. I only had trans reflash at Dodge after my DTT was built and had a too soon 1-2 shift issue. Which after the flas resolved the issue. But who know? Anything is possible . . .

Is there any way to tell if I have an aftermarket one? By markings on it? I could take a picture tonight and post?

if its a recon or a mopar performance ecm then the software code is different. I have a guy in KY with the same issue.

Marco made a recovery program to flash the other software version into the mopar ecm
