So with the Smarty on level 7 I get this constant haze. I am pretty sure it is all caused by the Smarty but until this weekend when I try some other settings I won't know for sure.

If it was an injector going south, wouldn't there be some symptoms?

I was on a very slight hill when I took this picture accelerating softly from 60-70.

I don't know if the problem is with the Smarty but I will say this... A haze while accelerating slightly uphill is not a huge suprise to me on a 2004. 5. Why? Well, if you are only accelerating slightly, you are probably running low boost and rpm's, which may not be able to clear up a Smarty on a high level. I guess knowing what gear you were in would be helpful. 6th?

Yep I was in 6th. I am sure it's just Smarty haze the more I think about it.

I will load up a lower level tonight and try again.

I think and hope you are right. If you get the haze on a lower setting, try downshifting to get the revs and boost up and see if that clears it up. I bet you know that already though huh! At least that way you can probably feel better about it not being a bad injector of whatever.

Stock injectors, 6th gear about 1,800 RPM's

Turbo is a HTB2 62/14.

35" tires, and running at operating temperature. Air temp was about 90* out.

Level 3 isn't quite so bad, yet it still does it.

Yeah i get a haze when i do that. It is a lot worse on an auto matic untill it downshifts. If it stays in overdrive and lugs I can Roll-Coal forever it seems. It seems any temp and when there is low boost. Once there is about 15 or higher psi boost it is fine. I don't think it is nothing to worry about as far as a injector going bad.

I use it when people P!$$ me off tailgating me. Backs them right off!!

any time I push the pedal more than just a little at less than 2k rpm. I get a considerable amount of smoke with the smarty on level 3. I get big time less smoke in the winter time and lots of smoke in the summer. I think that is normal at less than 2k with much acceleration, which brings up my one dislike about the smarty, it doesn't matter what trans mode I am in the smarty tells my truck to shift every time into 4th gear at 50mph unless I am heavy into the pedal, this is extremely annoying pulling a trailer around town, at it lugs the truck and again anything but a really slow push on the pedal will blot out the roadway with smoke. the factory program tow/haul mode did a much better job of dealing with this isssue and would hold the 4th gear shift back unless you let off the throttle. the smarty tends to make my truck shift like my dads stock early 04. so I am left pushing the overdrive lockout button on an off all the time, which normally creates an extra unneeded shift every time I do it.

My '99 did the identical thing w/ an Edge EZ. It got worse when I added mach 1. 6's to the equation and a DTT transmission. You've got so much more power at a lower rpm the electronics sense that it's time to upshift. Line pressure is down and I'm surprised the transmission is not slipping. DTT has a shift enhanser out that should allow you to program your shift points. I'm glad I went with the manual this time around.

hey, casper.........

with the turbo you have, do you think your getting enough feul to burn with the stock injectors? just wondering..... thinking of turbo upgrade; what type of injector i want to use has got me stumped.

Joe what about say 2100 RPM in 6th? Does it clean up at a certain boost level, and if so how much?

Hi Vaughn,

Yeah it cleans up pretty good at higher RPM, I think I am all right.

I'm not too concerned now.

With the new Turbo and higher smarty levels I just wasn't for sure.

I have seen well over 500HP with stock injectors. I am sure there is enough injector, maybe not enough CP3 if I turn the TST up to 5X3 or higher. I can drain the rail with that setting.

hey casper, one more thing?

dont know if you would know this; you said you had seen up to 500hp w/ stock injectors..... i am running an airdog, and i have a ind. inj. stage 1 'bag of parts' for my cp3 (not installed yet). they (industrial injection) say my cp3 will flow %20 more than stock. do you think that my stock injectors will work? i am also stacking a module and downloader. i have asked them (ind. inj. ) 2 x now and have had 2 different answers. yes it will work, then was told that it wouldn't be wise with my stacking of electronics, that i should upgrade my injectors. i know that people just want to sell the consumer stuff, but was just wondering. is it too much pressure from airdog to upgraded cp3 to rail to injectors? i am in the process of choosing injector nozzles (ind. inj. 60hp). next up turbo, i'm thinking silver 62 w/14cm housing. any thoughts? thanks, mark

Hi There,

I have seen 500HP but I am really not the guy to ask on what is the correct way to do it. I do think with the stock injectors you may be pushing them at that level. Injectors and the CP3 mod will definitely help and probably make your setup a bit more bulletproof. I like my 62/14, but I don't think you are going to get a ton of cooling out of it.

I can drain my rail with the TST on 5X3, at least I am pretty sure that's what's happening. I don't have a RP gauge.

Casper, turn the torque off on the TST... also, if you've got it set on a twins program, put it on the standard program.

both of these things allowed me to run higher TST power levels without draining the rail

I have an older TST that has the late twins program and that's it.

I need to send it in to be updated but I am done spending $$$ on the truck for a while.
