FASS mounting question/ Stock filter question

Guys,



I'm looking for reports from those of you who have purchased and installed the "Smarty" as part of your performance upgrades to 2nd generation trucks. How have you liked it? Pro's... Con's etc. Noticeable difference?



Specifically, my truck is a 1999, 4x4, quadcab, with a 3. 55 rear end setup and have installed a Banks "PowerPack" and "Ottomind" system on my truck. Just installed Boshe 300 HP marine injectors purchased from Mid-West Diesel.



If there are other programmers that you all have had better experience with. . let me know. Thought I'd follow everyones recommendations in checking things out prior to making the purchase.

I love mine even though im not currently running it. Its a little too much for my set up right now.



Customer service is top of the topest notch when ive had to deal with bob. Then again no major probs. just ordering and requesting updates.



This is one i could tell you a bunch about but its something youll have to just try and make your own opinion.



Im in the southeast corner of indiana if your close you can try mine.

I am running level 3 right now.



Folks with bigger injectors and more fuel have reported surging, on the higher levels when you use cruise control, I don't have those issues.



Marco found the speed limiter and has given us the adjustability to raise the setting above stock. Assuming they will continue to support the second gen upgrades and tweaks as they find them, it is and will be a good tool.
 
99 5 speed with Hot Juice on level 6 and ANY level of smarty causes truck to go dead pedal!!!!!! Lift a little on the throttle and it does come back. . but as soon as you start getting into it again. . you get the dead pedal again. Take Edge off of level 6 and it runs fine. Had Edge go thru box and it tested fine. Did check for codes with smarty. . none were set. So far no response from Bob or Marco. .

I have a Banks ottomind also and they stack well as the ottomind doesn't do timing.



The smarty does fruling like no other mod, it gives you control on how much low end fueling you want, not the ecm. I always run a smarty program, empty highway driving I use SW1 for the smoothest cruise, towing I use SW3 and normal local driving SW9.



My truck made 342HP with the smarty and Jammer 3 injectors alone! When I added the banks it only went up to 383hp.



Here are the 2 graphs, run 6 is the smarty only and run 7 adds the banks.

01 auto stock except air intake and mine is stacked with a edge comp box and it runs great no surging with or without cruise.

Great for bottom end power however I would probably add an Edge Comp or something along those lines before adding a Smarty. It's a nice addition to any setup.
 
Well my experience is whoops should have had a stronger clutch. . so I bought a sb ofe. and I still slipped the clutch and I had at the time a TST 3 and 100hp jammers. . and 62/14... and I upgraded to a FE clutch and things were fine. now I have mach 4 injec. and I can slip my FE clutch in 2nd,3rd and 5th gear if I floor it... so I have learned with the smarty there is much early torque that I cant floor it. I roll into the pedal. I did notice when I first had a timing box (edge ez) and 100hpjammers I had a small surge like a hot-rod gas cam feeling and sound when I released the clutch into gear. . not really bad. with timing off didnt get it. . now when I switched to 150hp injectors I get it bad. and when the smarty is on a timing software. I do run the truck in town at times with a non-timing software and its not as bad... So like many others I have learned to re-drive and shift the truck. . not a concern for me though... I would buy the smarty again if I was to do this over just would of bought a better clutch at the same time... my 2 cents. .

I'm lucky I've already got a OFE. I'm thinking about a TST in the future (and turbo) so I guess my OFE isn't enough:{
 
Havn't had it dyno'd but it sure runs a lot better. I purchased the "power Pack", then Banks gave me the stage 5 Big Hoss for free. I run the Smarty on 2 when pulling and 8 empty. Great ride
 
I had an 02 HO with the smarty, tst pwrmx3, phat shaft 62, hot rod vp44, 150hp jammer injectors, sb dd "Iron Giant", and a fass 150. Before the new vp44 I didnt have much top end with the 4. 11's but after words I dyno'ed at 689hp. I noticed with the TST off I had great bottom end with the smarty on level 9 but when I switched the TST back on full blast, the power band seemed to pull all the way to 4000 rpm without any backing off. I think stacking Smarty with an edge or TST will make a huge difference but will really come alive if you do the hot rod vp44. I now have an '07 5. 9 with a smarty and I still love the Smarty. Im running a 15. 4 with a 6" lift with 6 37/13. 50's but I also burned my transmission up and put a full billet suncoast with a converter and flex plate. I have it stacked with the superchips firefly but I'm planning on moving up to the Quadzilla Race or Van Aaken c5. 3 whichever I can find out is better. The Smarty is a great way to go IMO especially stacked.
