Does anyone know ls if the latest Smarty Jr (j-67) update for the emission compliant tunes (not ME) does anything to the EGR system? Like command it to zero it anything. Effectively letting you to keep the dpf intact and active regen process (when/if needed) but never use EGR, without unplugging and dealing with a CEL.

I’m running a ME tune now, but sometime miss the quiet, smell free truck it once was. But I don’t want the egr doing anything.

Custom Tuning might be best for what you are looking for.

yea even then, most (all?) of the guys doing that stuff really only mess with 2013+ trucks at this point. It's no big deal, I'm looking into mufflers and keep it fully deleted instead. It's not worth the headache.

I hate myself for even thinking this, but I have seen a semi gutted DFP/NOX and it sounded basically stock. Guy said he just had a 4" hole drilled through the middle of each. I tend to be under the strong belief that you should keep the emissions parts stored in working order because you never know. But that would make it quiet and free up a shelf in my garage.

I don’t know anyone who is strictly 13+, most of your custom tuners will tune your year or older.

What are you smelling on your 2008 truck? Also do you have a muffler installed in your exhaust system?

My 2008 is using a Smarty S67 set on CaTCHER Level 3 all parameters are set to default except TM which is 2. I have been this way since 2010 when I installed ME23. I do not have any diesel smell, but I do believe the muffler for my MBRP exhaust system may need to be replaced this year after 11 years of use..

Turbo > Downpipe/Cat > Straight pipe > Stock tiny muffler. Im am looking into repalcing the stock muffler with something bigger, or stacking a second on in front of the stock one.

As for the smell, it smells like exhaust, like the older trucks (as expected), what I miss sometimes is never smelling the truck at all when it was stock. That was nice :) but not worth it, I was briefly looking into all this as I was reading about some guys doing EGR less DPF intact tunes on the 2013+ trucks. That vendor said he is not doing anything for the older trucks. I looked around and found a couple more guys toying with the EGR less tuning thing, again nothing for the 2007.5-2012 trucks.

What you'll find is most recommend a full removal on the early 6.7, which might be why you can't find a lot of tuners. They are out there thou. PM me if you want any additional details.

You will also not find many people willing to even talk about it over the phone or email.

Hey thanks for the info, but I'm good. Im over the idea, it didn't last long haha. I will just keep it all removed. Not sure what I was thinking.

I recommend you add an additional muffler, and you can also add a second Diesel Cat, and that will help with the noise, and help with the smell, a bit. The Cat alone can remove about 20% of the emissions, and a second might get you close to 30%, but keep in mind, these Diesel Cats only start to work when the EGTs get up there, so after a cold start at idle, they will do nothing for the smell.

Given the cost of the DPF and LNT, I would advise against drilling them out, you can get a similar sized muffler pretty cheap, and in stainless and put that in the place where those other parts used to be.
