Another gauge question

I've been waiting this one out for a year and a half. I have a bone stock 06 3500 Mega 4x4 CTD, 48RE. I use my truck for mainly towing a 13000 lb fiver and am looking at the Smarty Jr. as a viable option for lower end tq, better pull threw shifting and gas mileage! I do not want to run the risk of damaging my truck and want to play it safe! Honestly, I've alays been afraid of the other programmers, i. e. Edge, Smarty, Quad, Banks, etc. Now, that is not to say that those products are not quality as I belive they indeed are they're just a little much for me and I'd be tempted to use what they provide!

Any opinions/advice?

Thanks,

Tony

You can't go wrong with Smarty Jr. It's good reliable "safe" power designed for stock trucks. I absolutley LOVE mine. But with anything that modifies power on these trucks, you got to be reasonable with the right foot. Being foolish with that much power can and will do damage. But thats also true at stock levels.

I believe you will get a lot of good advise from people on here that the Smarty Jr is a great product and well worth the money.

I have been very pleased with JR. , they are only messing with the timing and duration , no pressure which is the easiest thing to bump up. Brings the bottom end back to life. Plus you can change tire dia 80. 00 savings not going to the dealer. Doesn't leave a footprint.

Tony - - The guys are right - - the Jr is easy to use, and seems to be right for towing in the Number 2 setting - - noticed a little get 'n' go but nothing overwelming. Watching gages first time, the temp was about 250 degrees lower.

Being able to adjust for tire size and check codes is and added plus I think if you buy one you will be real happy with it.

Maybe Bob Wagner will chime here in and add some more insight.

I've only had mine for two weeks.

Which I would have bought it sooner.

I haven't tried the performance setting yet. I like the economy setting. I'm getting between 16-17mpg, that's with winter blend and below freezing temps.

My normal commute is 3 miles highway (65mpg) and 8 miles of 35-40mph. A few traffic lights thrown in.

I'm anxious to try the performance setting, but will wait until all the ice patches are gone.

You wont be sorry. I am going to leave mine on 40hp and forget about it. Mainly bought it for mpgs when empty and EGT's when towing.

Can I tow safely in economy setting?

I was wondering if it is safe to tow with the JR in the economy setting? The second gen Smarty does not reccomend towing in economy as the timing is too much. It is in bold writing, but the JR has no such warnings just wondering before I melt it down if I try to pull in economy.

Thanks for the heads up info Bob, I figured I would be safe and ask first. The CR Smarty crowd sure does have it made over those of us with the second gen smarty too.;)

I love towing with smarty jr. it has plenty of power (down loaded tow setting)it was worth every penny. I have not even tried other 2 settings. :D

I have hauled my camper in all three modes and it is fun. I think the T/H mode 2 is probably the best. Empty I have tried all 3 and it is FUN FUN FUN to chew up a rice rocket that tries to pass you on the freeway as they come weaving up thru the pack... and it is a dually, you should see the expression on their sweet young little faces. . hehehehe!! YOU are going to love it!!!
