I have a smarty jr on my 07 5. 9 6 speed manual. I heard that the smarty will enable this feature. Well, it doesn't work for me or I don't know how to activate it. Is it supposed to enable using the cruise control buttons? Does it work with the smarty jr?

Thanks

LOL. The poster doesn't state what is in his truck. I have the high idle on my MANUAL trans. Before it can be enabled, pin 21? on the ECM plug must be grounded. Then you get the dealer to enable PTO on with his scan device. The instructions to do this have been posted multiple times on the TDR. Do a "search" for high idle enable.

Looks like he specified 6spd manual to me... and to enable the generic fast idle (without the PTO kit) is only done on the automatics with the cruise control buttons. Fast idle is determined automatically by the ECM in the manuals, based on temperature.

So I was correct in my statement... fast idle enable is different from the PTO speed control. ;)

The 1000 rpm fast idle is done on all the trucks, manual or auto, and is already enabled.

The idle up feature using the cruise buttons is the same thing on all the 04. 5+ trucks and some of th 04's depending on the flash and cruise\speed control.

They all use the PTO sense function of the ECU to activate.

A manual truck will need pin #22 (IIRC) of the ECU B connector grounded for the idle up to work. If the Smarty enables it and the PTO wire is gorunded it works. The one caveat is in the Dodge programmed ECU there are 2 places that need to be touched for it to work, one to activate it and one to turn it on. Not positive the Smarty hits both of them on a manual truck.

so i went to the dealer to have them enable the pto, an they looked @ me like i was stupid an i told them what i was tryning to do an they said they need to know what it is under in the star scan tool... . lol there a dealer for cryn out loud!!! any way does any one know what its under "fuel, ecu, eletric?" my truck is a 05' 6speed

can i jus buy the smarty an turn it on that way also or do i need the dealer to turn it on first? i would rather jus hvae the dealer doit for now. but there about as bright as a box of rocks" at least the ones in my area"

Just had my high idle enable at the dealer Monday, my truck required the DRBIII and not the star tool. They charged me $17. 80. I installed the clutch switch instead of grounding pin 22. I found the clutch switch on ebay dirt cheap or otherwise I'd of just grounded pin 22. Current price on the Mopar clutch switch is $385. 00 and Cummins is $197. 00 and didn't show any in the system. Mopar had 4 or so left.

I had the dealer enable mine, then I grounded pin 22 of the 'B' plug on the ECM, use the cruise control to run the rpm's up/down. All you need is to have it turned on by the dealer and a 6" long piece of wire with an ECM pin on one end and a closed lug on the other. Use one of the bolts next to the B plug for a ground. The truck WILL automatically run the rpm's up to 1K if it is truly cold outside at startup, I think mine comes on at 32*s or less in ambient temps.

You just turn the cruise on and use the accel/decel to control the rpm's.

The 1000RPM *automatic* fast idle is enabled on all trucks... based on mainly temperature.

And again, without the "PTO" modification, only trucks equipped with an automatic trans can use the cruise buttons. This is because grounding the pin on the manual-equipped truck's harness is "creating" the neutral safety, which obviously a manual equipped truck does not have. In an actual PTO setup, the wire would be ran through a switch that was activated when the PTO was engaged, telling the ECM that the truck was "parked".

I was answering the OP's question based on the fact they simply wanted to enable the *manual* fast idle, which as has been pointed out, takes additional steps with a *manual*-equipped truck.

Grounded the #22 pin on my 04 6spd to enable cruise controlled fast idle

HAve smjr and high idle does not work.

Double checked to confirm ground

The pin is Cummins part #3164263. I have the written instruction with pictures when I did this a couple of years ago. PM me with your email and I'll send it to you.

pin #22 in the 60 pin plug" back one closest to the fire wall" theres a little rubber plug in the hole so dirt doesnt get in there remove it w/ needlenose pliers an push the new wire in until it snaps an put a 3 or 4" lead on it w/ a ring eye on the end an ground it to one of the bolts on the ecu. program the pto an your good to go:)

Will the high idle work with the 03/04 6spd. ?

I was under impression SMJr would enable... ... not for me...

Can snap-on code reader be used to enable pto in ecm? Have friend who is snapon dealer in area?

Thanks

If its a late 03 0r later then you need to ground pin #22 0ut of the ecm to enable the high idle on any manual transmission truck

Bob

I have grounded the #22 pin. Double checked and confirmed that I do have ground and on correct pin. No dice? Truck is very early 04,6sp.

I have a March '03 HO Auto as listed below. Am I still out of luck on the cruise idle feature? My understanding was that the '03 and '04's soft/hard-ware didn't support it... . but I really want it! Can't always find a rock or stick when you need 'em.

Build date prior to Dec 2003 you will need to follow these TSB's if they are still valid.
