Hi every one ,Im getting ready to take a trip with my truck and am wondering what settings seem to be working the best for economy and light power. I will not be hauling any thing or pulling a load Im just looking for decent mileage on a 4000 mile trip I love the Jr but have been a little apprehensive oftrying the different POD settings because the instruction booklet is a little vague as to what each setting does. . Does it all come down to constantly changing and experimenting with them or what I'd ratherdo is set and forget it. Thanks for any input into this :)

If you want to 'optimize' your trucks performance... . you're going to have to 'experiment' with settings. The key to finding out which particular setting will be 'optimum' for each driving situation, will be to record your mileage data at each fill-up and monitor your MPG, on each setting. After a couple of years of experimentation and filling up two mileage log-books, I know exactly which setting works best for 1) city driving in summer, 2) city driving in winter, 3) 'highway' trips unloaded, at various speeds 4) 'highway' trips pulling a 4-horse slant-trailer empty, 5) 'highway' pulling a horse trailer loaded 6) pulling a tandem-axle trailer loaded with 5-tons of hay etc. ONLY experimentation and recording the data, will let you know which settings work best in each type of driving situation. The 'set-it-and-forget-it' mentality will not get you 'optimum' results, so if it's truly fuel-mileage optimization that you want, your going to have to do some 'homework'. If 'homework' is too much for you (and I find it is for most of my college students... and my kids... ) then I find most 'boxes' will give you an increase in mileage if you 1) boost your 'torque' settings to somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 of 'maximum' for the particular 'box' or 'programmer' that your using, 2) keep your speeds at or below the posted speed limits and 3) use your cruise-control. Oh, and keep your tailgate 'up'. Dropping your tailgate won't net you any 'gains'.
