The Smarty JR was tested on a completely stock truck, you have an AFE Stage II intake. Does this intake allow under the hood hot air into the system? I had an AFE Stage I, that did allow engine heat to be mixed with the outside air. That does contribute to hotter egt's.
Not really trying to defend Smarty here, but you also show a VanAken box, was it off?
All trucks behave different, that's why its nice to have gauges, I would say you did a nice job of being observant. I remember when my truck was new, before gauges, the Dealer had installed an EZ on my truck(default was level 3 on the early EZ's). When I installed gauges, I was surprised how hot the egt's were, even pulling my little yard waste trailer I was hitting 1400+.
