Guys

Have a quick question about Smarty JR. On my Smarty SR all SW's default to option 2, is this also true for the JR?

The reason I am asking, my brother and friend of his have both purchased Smarty JR's, for their 2003 and 2005 completely stock trucks with auto trans. Both Smartys' were purchased used... They have asked me to perform the install to their ECM's.

I am going to download the most current JR software to their Smartys' first, then I was going to load SW 1 into both trucks, all options default except torque. I thought option 4 might be appropriate for torque, a bit more than stock, but less than both 2 or 3, going for mpg and the least smoke.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks, Jess

Geez... no Smarty JR folks around the forum today? Doesn't matter too much now, I did just what I planned, SW1, all defaults except torque(optioned 4), left POD@99. They both will let me know how it performs.

I was surprised how much quicker the software downloads to the JR vs the SR(12 min vs 30+ min). One other thing I noticed while downloading the software to the trucks, at around 65% downloaded on the 2005 truck, the lift pump relay started cycling the pump on and off in rapid succession, and continued to cycle until just before 100% complete. The 2003 truck did not do this, and my 2003 has never acted this way. When finished with the 2005, all acted ok, everything worked, but I decided to download again just to be sure, and again at 65/66% the relay and pump started cycling... weird.

I agree on your torque setting for the autos. I believe the best fuel mileage is available with the 100hp setting with the autos.

That being said I run mine(NV5600) on tow and just leave it there. I have not seen any difference in mileage whether using economy, tow , or power or stock. There is not a mileage loss that I can see though, so I leave on tow and do not have to think about high EGT when towing hard. (have never seen 1200 exceeded) under any circumstance.

I just wanted to be cautious with other peoples equipment, so that's why I chose the lower tq setting. When I had 13k on my 03, I drove up to DTT for a trans build, with just an EZ for added power, my second gear and OD clutches were already close to being toast.

I have not seen a noticeable difference in fuel mileage with the different SW#s either. My truck has always been between 9. 5/12 mpg towing, 17/18. 5 mpg hiway empty, and 14/16 around town empty. All still holds true except empty hiway miles, since I added the Arson III and the Toyo MT's, 17 mpg is about the best I can get.

Man, what beautiful weather we had today!
