I've been reading thru some other posts, wow almost too much to sift through. Was wondering if anyone has used a Smarty on an otherwise stock 01 HO 6 spd truck. What can I expect and what does it really do?

I have had mine now about 5 months. Truck is an auto with a straight 4" exhaust. I like it on #3 best only because the transmission won't handle the quick HP & TQ curve the Smarty presents at the low end. The fuel-saver setting is good too and I see about . 5 milage gain. I like it very much and even though I put the 4:10,s in the pumpkins the 37's took effort to roll. The Smarty made the entire truck feel much better with the tire size change. Yes... you can really feel the difference. Once you strap your waste gate this thing will really put a grin on your face.

Too bad... . I was just in Helena the week before Thanksgiving at Danzer's Paint downtown. We could have hooked up and loaded this thing for a demo... you would really like it Tom.

The 2001 has a hard-line... a boost-elbow won't work here. You must strap or spring load the waste-gate on a 2001. Besides that... the SMARTY allows more fuel hence you must modify the waste-gate or you just roll coal.

I have an otherwise bone stock 2001 HO. My Smarty has been set on #7 for over a year and I love it. And I do have a boost elbow on it.

I have a boost elbow on mine. Actually have a spare one too. My wastegate itself isn't touched, just the elbow.

Borrowed my friend's Smarty before I made any mods and tried it on many different settings just to see what it would do. Loved it. Used it to pull my camper and made a big differnece even on a middle setting of just 5. Now that I have my mods, I run it on 3. You'll really like it.

Guys... how are you doing an elbow on a stock HY-35? Mine is a hard line and I can't use the elbow?

William

Not all of them were the same. I found that out the hard way when shopping around for upgrades. Some (mine) had the exhaust bolted to the turbo and some had a band clamp. Some had elbows and some didn't. Makes life a bit more complex for us.

I bought an elbow off of e-bay that was supposed to be set to "max" (around 35psi). My quad recon tells me i get no more than 25psi with a truck bed camper into a hellacious headwind. My egt's shoot up to 1250+. I have no problem maintaining 75mph on the hills that are I-25. Granted, my camper weighs very little, but the wind resistance was more than usual.

My question is this: what type of boost elbow are you using? and, will opening the exhaust to a 4" Jardine or maybe even 5" help the egt's that much? Will my e-brake make a difference?

Thanks for all the great info and advice so far guys... ... keep it rolling!!!

My 4" straight pipe dropped my EGT's about 50 degrees over the stock 3" without a muffler. I didn't have a gage with the original factory set up to begin with so removing the muffler was an unknown for me.

My J-hook set up will do 28Lbs at near sea level however; running around up in the high Rockies I see only about 25 or perhaps a little less due to elevation.

Honestly, I don't know what kind of elbow I'm using. I sent my turbo to High Tech Turbo to make a hybrid out of it and they put the elbow on for me as part of the upgrade. I get around 30lbs of boost at full throttle under the right conditions, but around town I don't really romp on it so it doesn't matter to me. The spare I have came with my TST fueling box. I would have put it on, but the people at HTT said theirs is similar and either one would do. Sorry I couldn't help more.
