Hey there! I got an 02' automatic with an Edge EZ. With 3. 55's and 37 in mud terrains its kinda hard to get her up and running sometimes. I am not quite ready to throw down 5k for a transmission and some big mods yet but was curious what you would do. If you already had an Edge EZ what would you do next, smarty or injectors? I have intake and 5in exh but that is the extent of my power upgrades!

I'm not sure your transmission will take either of those options for too long. I love my smarty and would recommend it to anyone. Injectors will give you more power but the smarty will give you much more responsive power, instantaneously :D

I'm sure others will chime in on your transmission.

both items are going to yield happy results, however, think about this, just because you tell it to send more fuel with the smarty, doesn't mean the stock injectors will be able to do anything with it. logical order is injectors first, then smarty.

just read your signature, you have all that without injectors? or is that another vehicle.

Stock trany no good!

My first addition was an EZ, then I added RV275 injectors and within weeks the trany was slipping. I don't abuse my truck so I'd have to advise against it. Remember our 02s were not available with the HO if you had an auto. That's only 10 more HP and Dodge would'nt put an auto behind it. DW

I first bought an ez, then i was in you situation and did not know what to do. So i bought a smarty and that was a nice upgrade. Then that was not enough.....

If i had to do it all over again, I would go with the comp or drag comp first and sell the EZ and then stack it with the smarty. The two of them really work well. Then you can always add injectors... ... ... It never ends. .

I vote for the smarty, but with either choice, upgrades are in order to survive... . It's never enough and there will always be a weak link.

I was never a beleiver in the Smarty till I tried one and I am now saving to get one. The Throttle response is like a gasser!! no joke I really never though it could be that good

get the SMARTY... you will not be disappointed. . until your transmission starts to slip. I'm a little biased but IMHO the Smarty is the best bang-for-the-buck mod. and it will take the undertaker a week to get the smile off your face...

Yes the truck in my sig is another truck! My 37's are already tough enough on my transmission but it is holding up well as of yet! :( I plan on getting a full billit transmission but would like to do it on my own terms not as a necessity when the stocker breaks! I have heard many good things about the SMARTY but have yet to experience it myself! I guess that is just what it will take, me buying one and finding out for myself!

I would make it in this order!

1. Trannywork

2. Sell the EZ

3. Smarty to wake the truck up

4. Injectors

5. everythingelse

Regear?

If you plan on keeping your 37's I'd regear it before anything. Your so far off from stock gearing it's placing a huge burden on the engine and driveline. I tried a Smarty on my '99 and was amazed at the increase in low end power and everyday driveability. That was with a DTT and regeared diffs.

TCLuff,

1. Sell the EZ.

2. Buy Smarty, try Fuel Saver mode and see if it wakes the truck up enough to suit you, if not then go higher. Even with stock injectors the Smarty works wonders with low end driveability.

3. Normally I would recommend injectors next, but because of your tall tires I will say if the transmission feels good after having Smarty for a while then go with RV275's. They will help with power but allow you to drive judiciously until you get a new transmission. If the transmission doesn't handle Smarty very well then go there, then add bigger injectors.

4. Buy a TST PM3 and HAVE A BLAST!!!

No need to drop 5k for a transmission just get a good converter and valve body upgrade for around $1500 it will take care of you. I have a BD converter and valvebody and it really woke up the whole rig even with an EZ. I abuse it about as much as can be I sled pull it ,heavily loaded stock trailer in off road situations quite often. There is no test like ranching it is like sled pulling offroading and 4X4 mudrunning all rolled into 1. Point is if the rest of the transmission is good then the converter and valvebody is all you need.

TCLuff,

Another consideration; if you install injectors, then only way to change the power down is remove the injectors. If you install Smarty, two minutes and Smarty is removed.

Also, I doubt any injector at any $ could give you in driveability what Smarty will. AND with Smarty smoke is easily controlled by the right foot.

Godspeed,

Is the smarty that good? Everyone seems to love it. I have a bullydog torque dog chip which has three settings stock, 35 hp and 65hp. I've been happy with it, but somehow I feel I am missing something in regard to the smarty. Not to look at the negative but did anyone have a bad experience?

The smarty is not gonna give you the most hp or lbft. of all the performance tuners/boxes out there, but it definately gives the most low end performance of any product on the market. We all love smarty because of the smoothness of the engine from idle to peak rpm. It takes away that jerking effect that you get when your turbo hits & feels smooth right off idle. It also broadens your powerband to make your engine stay in the peak hp/ torque longer. This alone is enough to sell me on smarty, but it also reads trouble codes & displays them in full text & erases them. I could go on & on about it, but you have to experience it for yourself to appreciate it... ... awesome tuner!

The only thing I have heard is that some guys running high Hp have had some auto transmission problems. I am not sure of all the exact details but it has to do with the transmission banging kind of hard in lock-up. These guys, from what I understand, still run the Smarty for its other benefits.
