Beefing up R-48 for towing work

I'm going to look at an '03 on Monday and was wondering where the best place to get a smarty and a FASS here in Canada is or should I try to buy them when I'm in the US. I also see that they have a smarty junior out now. I am not so concerned about HP but torque. I am used to 650-700 ftlbs. Will the 30 hp on the Smarty do the trick or would the smarty jr at 40 be better. The added timing should help my milage at the 30 hp setting right? My dad has an '03 6sp with Edge EZ on the 40hp setting which works just fine and is cheaper to buy. The Smarty has a lot more features though. I tow a fair bit and don't have the funds to change turbo's or airboxes. My brother has a FASS on his '01 which dropped his egts, gained 2psi of boost and increased his mpg. I would like the better filtration and get the piece of mind from a more robust pump. Is it a good mod to start out with. Onto guages, where is the best place to mount them. I have had autometer guages in the past and liked them. I was just after a pyro and boost guage for as few of $ as I could get by with spending.

Sorry about the long post

The smarty has much to reccomend it, lots of features like you say. I don't think the FASS is a necessary option on the third gen trucks until you exceed 100hp in mods. At that point you start to tax the stock fuel system. It has other merits though if you get the unit with filtration, and an '03 may be needing a replacement fuel pump one of these days anyway. Factory replacements go in the tank, FASS mounts on the frame again.

If you don't desire a bunch of HP, either the Edge EZ or the Quadzilla XZT are very easy to install, can improve milage slightly and will give you the torque boost you desire.

I like gauges on the A-pillar, Genos garage has about every concievable combo out there on their website, take a look.

Thanks for the input I'll have to check out the Quadzilla website and pricing. I'll definitely give Geno's a call. I wanted to get a transmission filter anyways.

2003 has the primary pump on the filter housing. It is a weak unit at best. replace with GDP unit w/aux. filter unit. Then do the SMARTY.
