I ran the truck this past weekend with the 5er for first time with all of my new mods (see sig) except for the Smarty. Rained all weekend at the beach, but it was much fun with the family and friends... :)

EGTs maxed out at 1100F pulling the big grades on the way to the Oregon coast. Ran 600 to 800F for most of the trip and as low as 150F going down the grades with my foot off of the throttle.

Trans temp maxed out at 140F pulling the big grades and ran at 125F for most of the trip.

Boost ran at 11psi on the flats and maxed out at 28psi on the hills.

Fuel economy for the 285mile round trip was 11. 2 mpg (hand calc)

Truck ran super smooth and sounded awesome. Didn't experience any drone, but it get loud (but a good robust tone) at 1400rpm pulling hard.

Power was great, but as always, more could be better. However, I keep hearing my Dad saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!"

Question 1: With the Smarty loaded (aftermarket injectors - stock turbo, mild torque management), do you think I can expect the EGTs to drop and the fuel economy to increase on level 1 (30hp) ??

Question 2: Anyone ever go back to stock after installing the Smarty software? If yes, any problems like throwing codes or that back up alarm nuisance?

Thanks,

Louis

i had similar mods as you when i started. i have 120hp kax injectors, and had a stock turbo at the time. i pulled my 40ft raptor over the mt. range from Bend to the coast and never could flat foot the throttle' but all was very smooth and controllable. i pulled all year with the truck towing on sw#5 (486hp. )

when i updated to the twins this winter i ran the after market turbo, injector program and didn't like it at all(NO POWER). bob wagner hooked me up with the beta program, what a difference. i haven't pulled with it but i am pretty sure it will be a step in the right direction for me.

as long as you are good with watching the pyro i wouldn't think nothing of going to a higher setting. i would worry more about an auto transmission. LOL... .

Advancing the timing (stock program to Smarty) should increase mileage and decrease EGTs. The more the advance the more the change, but at some point it will become too much. You can now download serveral timing programs with the new Smarty downloads.

Bump - Anyone have some responses to my questions?

Thanks,

Louis

I think Bob Wagner, the creator of Smarty along with Marco may have answered Question #1... As for having problems going back to stock, I have not, and normally return the truck back to stock prior to taking it to dealer in case they update. .
