I run with the Smarty on #3 all the time and the truck is super fun to drive but it seems like I am always babying it because of transmission horror stories. I hope to have a new VB and torque conv. by late summer after 5er season. I think I have read every tread on the smarty and stock autos but from personal experiance can any body tell me from real life showoff moments what you can get away with now and then just to show off a little. I know if you play you pay I'm just looking for a good starting point. I never tried full throttle from a dead stop or even at highway speed usually just half quick smooth roll on. How easy is it to slip the transmission? On #5 will full throttle at 60mph and above kill the transmission? I don't find that it smokes very much is there any tricks to getting it to smoke now and then(without pouring oil in the fuel tank!!)? Could you go above #5 for just highway speed rollons, watching egt of course?
My buddy has a 2001 Ford powerstroke 4x4 (stock auto) with a 70hp superchip program and propane. He mills the guts out of that truck when ever he gets a chance, brake stands, donuts you name it. He has done 2 truck pulls with it with propane and eventually split the turbo and intercooler and blew the air box off it(now repaired),but normally only runs the superchip and he has never had a transmission problem. Is the 48 that much weaker then the ford transmission. Just and observation.
Appreciate any feedback,Thanks Rob.
