I run with the Smarty on #3 all the time and the truck is super fun to drive but it seems like I am always babying it because of transmission horror stories. I hope to have a new VB and torque conv. by late summer after 5er season. I think I have read every tread on the smarty and stock autos but from personal experiance can any body tell me from real life showoff moments what you can get away with now and then just to show off a little. I know if you play you pay I'm just looking for a good starting point. I never tried full throttle from a dead stop or even at highway speed usually just half quick smooth roll on. How easy is it to slip the transmission? On #5 will full throttle at 60mph and above kill the transmission? I don't find that it smokes very much is there any tricks to getting it to smoke now and then(without pouring oil in the fuel tank!!)? Could you go above #5 for just highway speed rollons, watching egt of course?

My buddy has a 2001 Ford powerstroke 4x4 (stock auto) with a 70hp superchip program and propane. He mills the guts out of that truck when ever he gets a chance, brake stands, donuts you name it. He has done 2 truck pulls with it with propane and eventually split the turbo and intercooler and blew the air box off it(now repaired),but normally only runs the superchip and he has never had a transmission problem. Is the 48 that much weaker then the ford transmission. Just and observation.

Appreciate any feedback,Thanks Rob.

It's a 2001 so it's just a 7. 3L and doesn't make enough torque to start a Cummins. That's why he gets away with humpin it. W/O the propane your stock truck will spank him mercilessly (maybe even with it).

You will most likely torch the transmission on #5 even at highway speeds.

A man after my own heart, had to laugh when I read your post. Apparently we share the same distaste for the Stroke-N-Poke. At work Im known as "Dodge Boy" for obvious reasons. I wish you worked with me so we could set the Stroker boys straight.

P. S. I have probably the most heavily moded truck out of the 850 people that work at my shop..... sad Huh

I may have it even worse, the guys I work with drive... Hondas! I got nobody to talk smoke with!

When I first got my 03, a 7. 3 tried to play with me on a two lane on-ramp. He must have been bombed given all the smoke he made. Even though I was bone stock I was able to toy with him. What a hoot!

Only thing I know about the Smarty is, I ran Juice and EZ for 30,000 miles 436 HP, then TST stacked with the EZ doing truck pulls, showing off, etc. After putting the Smarty on for 3 days it took out the transmission but I did have it on 8.

Could you fill in your signature so we can see what you have.

well I just got back from a 12500mile trip played with my smarty for mileage level 3 with 20000lbs stock trans and honed injectors equals bad tq converter shutter at will. level 1 increased mileage 1. 24 to 1. 78mpg I could make the tq converter shutter if the rpm dropped to 1500to 1600 if I wasnt careful. If I keep the rpm at 1800 to 2000 it requires heavy throttle input to cause tq converter shutter. I really like the extra power and mileage. I get smoke without my smarty on level 3  I believe my injectors have added a lot more hp than I thought. The dino sheet from KAX claimed 125hp so if they added even 75hp + 30 to 60hp from the smarty transmission up grade time. That being said I believe a stock Ram with the smarty on level 1 or 3 you would be ok. This truck will be awsome once my trans is up graded. Randy

One more thing Im going to check on a timing only program as I believe I have plenty of fuel. Also on level 1 the smarty cooled my egts by 300 to 400 degs level 3 required careful throttle control as the tq converter will slip with a heavy load empty its a lot on fun I have done the standing start full throttle lots of smoke tires as well as exaust probably 50ft of rubber pretty cool considering my trucks weight approx 8000lbs I wont be doing that much until my trans get updated. Randy

Its pre turbo Im really happy with the smarty on level 1 could do with a little less smoke. The reality is these injectors smoke a bit without the smarty thats why I think timing only may be the ticket Randy
