Here I am

Smarty, the new CaTCHER tool.

I think Marco has really come up with something that will suit about 99% of us diesel guys.

Murle,

That IS what I'd like to deliver. A setting for everybody's needs. As there are endless upgrade combinations, each with somewhat unique requirements, I'd like to be able to deliver a matching software for all.

Thanks for your report!

Happy new Year!

Marco.

Murle,

When you get a chance to try the fuel saver mode let us know if you get an increase in mpg.

Murle; Thanks for the updates on your beta testing im enjoying the posts. I to am interested in hearing numbers in regard to mileage savings.

wally. my only mods are DTT transmission (done in 2000) an Mach 4 (150HP injectors) and Dodgezilla trurbo (40/35 w 14 ) ( dynojet at 401 hp 833)

Marco's fuel saver program add's a lot of more throttle response and hp(hmmm) over stock

so let see where the number come in.

I am not the only tester either :D

Come Tuesday I will start logging numbers :)

I can't wait for this to become available for my 2005. Please add me to the pre-order list.

BTW: I just cancled my order for a Bully Triple Dog after reading about the Smarty! :-laf

Thanks,

Clint

I think something needs to be clarified. The Smarty just improves drivability and parameters on the 3rd gen's, right? If I'm reading this correctly and people are expecting large power gains like the BullyDog produces they may be disappointed. I believe Marco himself has stated that it "does NOT add power". Just making sure that myself and others know what to expect.

I've been out of the loop for a while ever since I was called to the Middle East, but I'm able to check in with TDR every now and again. It seems like one minute Marco's coming out with a revolutionary ECM flash and the next minute he's come out with an ECM programming module. If only Middle Eastern politics could move that fast!

I remember watching an episode of Rides when they built an overly powerful Corvette and brought in a specialist to program the ECM. I thought to myself, "WOULDN'T THAT BE GREAT IF WE COULD DO THE SAME WITH OUR TRUCKS!"

And now we can..... Thanks Marco!

I can't wait to come home so that I can plug in the Smarty and do my best to avoid speeding tickets.

Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday season to all of you and yours.

Tim Hurry Home ;) And thanks for keeping all of us safe Oo. Oo. Oo.

You will see a power increase with the smartys timing advance and turning down the torque management on the 3rd gens. When we add more fuel we need to advance the timing. This will work well with the boxes that add more fuel by pressure or duration. Turning off the unneeded pre and post injection events will help too. The injectors would have to last longer with 2/3 less cycles not to mention fuel saved.

Don't know about not adding power, but when I installed my Catcher, the truck felt much quicker and I know it accelerated much faster than with the TST PM3 alone, or the Mach 1. 6 injectors alone. I tried all of these independently of each other. Looking forward to getting the Smarty.

Will be filling the truck up tonite and will start the fuel check. I will be doing this with the 2001 5 speed. No mods except it does have the FASS. This truck is a flatbed quad cab two wheel drive. It also has 154,000 miles on it. Will be testing it back and forth to work. Some town driving and some highway. Total will be 20 miles a day. Will try and give a report on Fri. I know this will be a short test... but I know, just like me, some here want to see what the difference is going to be... .

I had an 02 ETH with mach 3's, Blue Chip FMS, CATCHER, and B-1. That truck had some power, but more importantly it reponded INSTANTLY with the CATCHER installed.

I reciently got a TST powermax cr for my 05, and honestly, I am not that impressed. I only kept it in my truck for 2 weeks. It is NOTHING like the old truck. It just dosen't have the throttle response that my old truck had. With the TST you have to wait for the power to come on, unless you want to keep your foot to the floor all the time. I don't have the twins program so maybe that is part of the problem.

That's why I'm so excited for the 3rd gen Smarty. I want that throttle responce back! For me, it's much more fun to drive a truck with instant throttle response, than big top end power. Maybe in the future I'll stack it with the TST, but I loved the CATCHER on my old truck, and I'll have a Smarty for the new one.

Marco is there any way the Smarty can be configured to allow adjustment to the overhead fuel milage display, like the tire and speedo calibration :D

Now that would be Smart ;)

Marco,

I've got a couple questions for you.

Back in the caTCHer days I asked if a pilot injection event could be added to quiet down the idle of the of a second generation. At that time it was not possible, is it still not possible? I just want to be able to order a burger without having to turn off the truck every time.

The other question is will the Smarty work with BioDiesel?

I do not think you can do a pilot injection with a 2nd gen as the injectors are straight mechanical. They have a pop off pressure that has to be overcome, and once done, your commited to the fuel. That is why the 3rd gens are quieter. The injectors are electronically controlled and no pop off pressure is required. It is a matter of how long you want to keep the injector open now. My bet is that this difference is why we see allot of grousing about fuel economey on the 3rd gens not being that good as 2nd gens. Theory or course :)

In no way do I claim to know for a fact but I read somewhere that the VP44 does have the built in ability or capacity to do an additional injection event but it is not included in the software controlling it. I am aware that the injectors are mechanical but that is not really where the "magic" is happening here.

I directed this question to Marco since he is the one that is up to his eyebrows in the software that makes our trucks run and he can tinker with that software, but thanks for your input.

Even if you could get a pilot injection on the vp44 it would take more than that to make your engine quieter. The 3rd gens have a lot of insulation in the engine compartment and retarded timing. This is one reason the 3rd gens get poor milage.

Biodiesel

Mr C,

No still no pre injection... Sorry

But you know what, I was just thingking today about something tailored for the alternative fuel guys. Some file tailored for the biodiesel folks...

We could then have different updates for the Smarty on the web site, Diesel & Alternative fuel ...

I have NO experience with that kinda fuel, can't find it here and honestly won't run it in MY truck. Anyway... what would the Biodiesel need changed in the software ( if any )? More timing? Maybe less? Really dunno will need to look into it.
