The 00. 00" reading from Smarty means that the previous setting was something that wasn't in the size tables from Smarty. I think he goes in 0. 25" increments, so if it was something in between, it would show 00. 00.

AH, OK - still using a tone ring pickup off the ring gear apparently - thanks.

'98 to '06 so far... ('07's most likely), Seems dodge will continue with RWSS (mounted on the rear differential) untill atleast '09 when they get another makeover.

Well, I'm fixing to bite the bullet and order a Smarty. I have been putting it off to long. My truck is completely stock except for the EZ, so I was wondering what to expect as far as egt. I am still running with a muffler. Took it off for awhile but had to much droen when pulling a trailer. Is there anyone running the smarty by itself or am I the only one left nearly all stock?

... ... sorry, real quick here. With 924 posts I was too lazy to read. :-laf

Will the Smarty work on 06' trucks? If not, when?

I'm was running an EZ, 275 injectors, BHAF, and stock exhaust, with the Smarty EGT is the same or maybe slightly less on mine :)

I get lots of call's from guys running stock. After smarty is installed they are very happy.

For towing, nothing beats a smarty :)

I'm currently running a Smarty on my '01 ETC. Stock except for air filter & 4" exhaust. I usually run SW#9. It really wakes up the throttle response. You won't see much if any change in egt's.

Im will be headed south out of Maine this week with the 5er in tow My 02 HO is stock except for smarty and a boost elbow. Has anybody with a similar setup decided which smarty setting will produce the best milage and performance while towing.

The milage improvements come mostly from timing, if I understand it correctly. Also, the fuel saver program has more timing than should be used for "heavy" towing. At a steady cruise I don't think you will find much if any milage differences in the various SW programs. Soft, mild & full CaTCHER mostly tune throttle response to your liking. Pick your favorite. Mine has always been #9.

Noticing my new ride has 285 tires & 265 spare, I decided to try the ABS feature for the first time. The truck was set up for 31. 25" tires & the 285's measure 32. 25. Recalibration is quick & easy. I guess this means my milage calculations will improve a bit.

Well its been a little over a week now with my new Smarty. . Hadn't gotten much of a chance to drive very far until this past weekend. I have had it set at #9 since I got it, Big Surprise. Anyway, This past weekend, I went from Northern NH down to the coast of Maine. All 2 lane secondary roads, no interstate. Rte 302 for those familiar. Filled up at home, drove to Old Orchard Beach then went to Portland for a bit then back home. Stopped prior to home in North Conway and filled up. Went 222. 2 miles and it took 10-9 gallons. They way I do math, that comes out to 20. 38 mpg. VERY happy with that as it was still set on #9 and I was playing quite a bit passing, accelerating quick, and one WOT run for top end. I usually get about 19-20 mpg on that trip so this was right in line. So it appears that it does not hurt the mileage at all even playing around a fair amount with it. Still haven't tried the "fuel saver" program yet, just can't bring myself to take the #9 out.

I think I have pretty much made up my mind to go ahead and purchase the Smarty. There are only a couple of concerns that I have; 1) that the idle speed increases 2) that a code get set for improper fueling 3) that the key cycles get reset.

1) Idle speed remains the same as stock.

2) You will get code 0602 with any non software from #1 to #9.

No codes are set with the stock software.

3) Key cycles are not reset.

FASS Question

I just got hom from a short trip down 101 and noticed that when I turn the key on I get a very short initial FASS cycle rather than the very long cycle I had prior to the installation of the Smarty. I mean this thing cycles on & off in about 2 seconds. . prior to the Smarty it would run about 15 seconds before it shut off

Is this normal??

Yep - I noticed the same thing. Marco said it was one of the Dodge flashes for hard starts or something like that. I didn't really like it at first, but I guess nothing has really changed.

As long as it doesn't hurt anything I can live with it... just don't want to burn up an expensive FASS pump or worse, a VP44
