bark stops here!

That is a great trick for the cruise control, thanks for posting that Bob!

I have another question or two to try your patience :)

Yesterday I was going to get fuel ($3. 00 a gallon #@$%! ) and I jumped on the go pedal pretty good going down the expressway, when I got to the light I looked up at my Trans temp gauge and it was reading 200°

When I initially got on the fuel, I felt a slight hesitation, not sure if my trans slipped or not. It has NEVER slipped since I put in the Suncoast VB & TC!

Has any one else had hot transmission problems with the Smarty?? I am definitley not saying the Smarty is to blame, I am just trying to analyize everything to try and determine why I have has such hot temps in my trans the last few outings.

Also... do I need to set my tire size in the Smarty even if I have stock sized tires?

I didn't see an answer to this question. I'm also wondering the same thing.

Thanks,

The Smarty is still going to read your VIN to find out what model your truck is so I don't think you'd be able to use it to reporgram the ECM for SO programming.

I thought the Smart had 330 programs stored on it? I could be full of it. :p

Looks like the SHOVP-44 it is. <sigh> Now if I could only find someone to make me one!

Industrial Injection only makes the HRVP-44. I'll ask around.

Before downloading Smarty checks for the vin in both the ECM and PCM to determine what program to use, if they dont match it wont do anything.

It does contain all of those programs but like stated above, it reads the VIN data from your ECM and PCM to determine which set of ten programs you will be able to download.

Well that stinks !

What if your running an unknown ECM ?

The dealer can set the vin in a new ECM, I would assume they could reset the vin in a used ECM??

I tried it with my spare first ;) and it wouldnt work

I just wonder how much longer my Lift Pump is going to last. I can pull it down to the 4 psi neighborhood now. I may baby it until I go home on leave next month and have it replaced for free. I guess that is one good thing about mom working at a dealer and me knowing the service manager and the tech real well.

the vin number is not an issue. is is read from one area and taken care of.

all is good

I wanted to save my virgin ECM so I tried to down load with my spare installed and it would not work, it said something like "could not verify vin". What should I be doing to make this work?

I am not an expert on this but with that said, I believe that the converter will have a tough time with the power coming on so early on the throttle application. If I am not mistaken the internal preasures are regulated by throttle position ( more go peddle = more line presure = more clutch application presure ) an already marginal transmission is even more comprimised.

I suspected my stock transmission would grumble and the converter would easily slip when locked up with anything over moderate acceleration.

I don't have a problem with this, it just puts me down to the fuel saver setting until I can get my upgrades then #9 here I come again :-laf

Right and wrong at the same time...

Smarty checks the VIN #'s in the ECM & PCM for VIN locking itself to the truck.

What program to use is then determined by the software revision read from the ECM before an update starts.

Yup, the VIN # thing has been a major problem! We've changed the strategy three or four times by now.

The first revisions did check the VIN# in the ECM, only. Everything went smooth with original ECM's. With a few ECM's that had been changed previously Smarty would become VIN locked without being able to return back to stock ( looong story... ). We changed then to reading both the ECM and PCM and in order to avoid problems if the numbers out of the ECM and PCM did not match we would refuse to go further and display " Could not verify Vin ". That did not VIN lock Smarty but did not solve the problem either since the customer could not update his ECM at all...

So we came up with the latest strategy. If the VIN#'s from the ECM and PCM do not agree, Smarty takes the VIN form the PCM and stores it. Updates the ECM and writes the VIN# previously read from the PCM into the ECM. Voilà, problems solved.

jrobinson2, all you need is to update Smarty with one of the latest versions form our download page.

Helps?

I have finally put together a sales and information brochure for the smarty ecm tuner.

If anyone would like a copy for a friend or neighbor, please just ask :)
