Gary,

Have you tried updating your tire size with the Smarty while it is still in Stock SW?

Jim

Jim, that's the problem - the Smarty won't LET you access the ABS function until you have actually loaded one of the S/W's, and then it REMOVES whatever ABS change you made when you go back to stock to whatever it originally was!

I suspect that there are some guys here who might have at some time reloaded their stock software, and not realized that any time they do that, they lose ABS updates, and they must be re-entered the next time they load another Smarty S/W - that only happens when you go back to stock - not when going from one Smarty level to another.

Marco's new software upgrade REALLY works well. If you have the slighest surge, I would be all over it.

GREAT JOB MARCO

No doubt about it, the Smarty ability to be updated with new features is really great - This trip we start on tomorrow and for the next several weeks will finally give me a chance to put the Smarty thru it's paces in the use I actually bought it for. I'll be checking in from time to time from our daughter's place in California - take care guys! :)

I'll second that emphatically... ... ... ... ... Oo.

The dead spot is a thing of the past... ... ... ..... it pulls as it should when lugging, even from 1200 rpm on up and no surge at the 1750ish rpm area.

One other nice benefit I saw which I was slightly concerned about before the updated software - after getting on the freeway, running through the gears (auto), it would go from 3rd to overdrive/lockup almost instantaneously. Little to no gap between OD and Lockup... ... ... ... . this only started with the original Smarty program #9. I did a workaround by locking out OD, then releasing it after lockup was achieved at 55mph. Now it does the normal 'spacing' and does not fall on its' face.

Great customer service = listening to your customers constructive comments and reacting to them. Marco is the man.

And thanks Bob Wagner for the assistance... ... ... ..... :D

I don't know how this fixed it, but I had the same problem with stacking the 3-4 shift and lockup before the update. It went away. Sorry Marco, I completely forgot to share that it fixed that.

No doubt Marco is the man. It still amazes me that he was able to fix it that fast.

Intelligence is figuering out what the problem is. Genius is figuering out how to fix it.

The Smarty, well, words do not do it justice.

Major News!

Gang,

I've just finished to load up new updates for Smarty on our web site.

We always try to improve our product so we came up with these news.

Be it clear, you don't need to update your Smarty, there's nothing wrong with it but I highly recommend it!

The news are:

1) INCREASED ECM update speed! A typical ECM update takes now only 1 minute and 30 seconds. Faster than that... .

2) The " surge / dead spot " fix is now comprised in all software versions.

3) The USB and USBL software provide a much faster PC to Smarty update speed. The time needed to update Smarty is less than half of what it was before.

Thanks,

Marco

:) :) Well I did my first download of the upgrades tonight. It took me 3 trys, (I'm a little slow sometimes  ) but I got finally got it to take. Version 3 with the #0 that will not allow the engine to start.

:D I like it :D Tried it out and there is not way the engine will light off, so I am a very satisfied customer at this time. This gives me a great deal of piece of mind ;)

I had some other thoughts as I was going through this process with the Smarty.

Bob, Marco, please expect a PM from me shortly, as I have one concern that I want to let you know about. Thanks.

Several pages back in this thread GMcLeod sez:

"Now this is where I open up my can of worms! I only get 15 mpg with the SMARTY and the drop in boost (turbo Bark) going into overdrive"

At the beginning that left me stumped, mileage that is. Then I got other stuff on my mind and almost forgot about it. SORRY!

Say, your truck is an AT? Reason I ask is... ehmmm. I believe a few Smarty's have been loaded by some stupid a..... who did not know what he was doing (Read=Marco!) with the wrong software revision.

Did you notice by chance a higher idle and stronger low idle governor?

If so, a few ( Couple ) Smarty's could have been loaded with SW version 2 instead of 1 but still display # 1... Software version 2 is the one for the extreme cold climates and yes it kills mileage... . :{

Please update your Smarty and let me know how it goes.

Marco

I stopped by Bob Wagners today and got to update my system.

I can report the surge is gone. Power feels much better throughout the rpm range and there is clearly more fuel available at all throttle settings. I now feel like I am making use of whatever timing/ fueling changes Marco did to this system.

I will continue to nit pick this thing, but I think Marco has fixed it well enough to manage some really big sticks. And with the TST on... . :--)

Thanks again Bob and Marco for addressing this need of your customers. I am sure the future will be bright!

Dave

Any reason I shouldn't get onto Marco's website and update my Smarty? I can't say as I have noticed any surging on my 98. 5 5-speed truck, but if there is a chance I can benefit from even SMOOTHER onrush of power, I'm all over that.

Of course, I still need to pry my Smarty out of my buddy's not-quite-cold dead hands because he likes it so much he wants to keep it.

His 01 ETH 6-speed truck took approx 25sec to go 0-60 up a highway on-ramp with a 9k 5-er on the back and with Smarty on #7, that dropped to 19sec... remarkable. We are going to fool around with Smarty on/off and with/without towing the 5-er this Sat morning and I am sooo anxious to see the difference. My little 98. 5 truck has been running around empty, so maybe I am not truly appreciating Smarty's finer points :D

Yes, of course!

Even if nothing changes engine performance wise, with this new update(s) the Smarty to ECM download is (much) faster! I'd do it just for the faster update speed... . :D

Marco

I can also report that it's all grins here also. New software are in the ECM and it runs smooth :)

So the cold climate SW kills milage? Hmmm... . Time for a new download.

Greetings from the top of Europe.
