As you can see I'm new here and have a few questions for you old hands. I hope this is the right forum for these.

Smarty or TST or stack'em? Why?

I have a fuel preprator in my big truck and it works killa, made by the Ekstam who makes the AirDog. I've noticed most of the members are using the FASS and I wonder is this because of the superior promo of the FASS or is it in some way superior to the AirDog? I've spoken to Charlie many times and find him extreemly knowledgable even though he's not invloved on a day to day basis anymore.

I've done searches on all the forums, I think, and I've found no description of how to do the ring tone mod. Is this really just something for your cell phone? :-laf

I have used the search on most of this already but I was hoping for a condensed place to see this info and it may help some other newbies. Thanks for your help.

Oh, BTW, Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 syn. , and which suspension Lorenz, KORE, Carli? Just thought I would stir the pot a little.

I can not speak on the stacking of boxes but just got a airdog myself and have been pleased with quality and customer support when they forgot to include one fitting and next day it to me. The person I got my airdog from liked them better than the fass unit and I from what I had read not alot of problems out airdog units as well. I think fass is just a better marketed product is reason for so many of them out there.

i love my fass 150 AND my Smarty/TSTpm3 stack. FASS was cheaper ,easy to install(plug n play basically) and placement for easy service and out of the way with no extras needed! the Smarty does the timing and low boost fueling as well as boost fooling/ then the TST pm3 rolls the coal on the mid/top end without ANY problems with quality or interaction.

I was thinking that myself. I have great confidece in the AirDog company since I have around 450,000 miles on one of their units and it has worked flawlessly. That's not to say the FASS isn't good I just have the experience with the other.

DCreed, I've read that the Smarty doesn't leave a "footprint" i. e. a tattle tale, when you use it. Is this the case? Also, if it is the case, when you stack the TSTpm3, does it then leave a "footprint"? The lack of a tattle tale is very appealing to me. Thanks for the post up and for your info.

correct Smarty leaves no "evidence" except the smile on your face! the TST on the '04 not sure . ask TST ? you can find them in site sponsors.

I am very happy with my Smarty. It makes my truck a lot more fun to drive and tow with. My mileage has increased and EGTs have decreased. The Airdog was an easy installation and is very quiet. I am extremely happy with both products.

How much of a difference in EGT did you see?

By how much was your milage increased?

Did the Airdog kit come complete with all the hoses and fittings you needed? How easy was the wiring harness install? Did you go with the 95 gph or the 150 gph?

Thanks for the response.

When towing my 5th wheel with the Smarty I noticed a drop of 100* EGTs when pulling grades, compared to the Quad XZT I used before. 1 TO 1. 5 mileage increase. The Airdog comes complete with everything you need. The installation is not difficult. The pump mounts inside the frame at the back end of the transfer case skid plate, if you have a 4X4. The wiring harness is complete with relay and the correct ends to plug in. I bought the Airdog PF-100 which is the 95 gph. I bought mine here:

AirDog fuel system water and vapor seperator for Cummins, Duramax, Powerstroke engines diesel engine performance

As for replacement filters. I buy mine at this site for $15. 95 each for 3 micron:

AirDog Replacement Filters

I hope this helps.

Dang, 100* is very impressive. !!!

Again, very impressive. If you drive any miles at all 1 to 1. 5 mpg's will save you money.

Well, that's good news, a complete set and easy install. I was thinking the 95 for myself. I don't know, but I think, the 150 would be for some very serious mods. I'm not looking for more than 460 to 475 to the ground.

bcpalmer, it does help and thanks for posting the acutal numbers.

I went with the AirDog PF100. Comes with everything you need and 1/2" lines. It is a quiet unit and truck seems to running more smoothly and getting slightly better fuel mileage if not romping on it.

The Smarty is a nice addition for towing performance. This truck is running at its best right now...

Jeepit, are you just using the Smarty for towing?

How do you like the Westach's? They are the ones that appeal to me at this point. Tomorrow... ... who knows???????

Airdog pf100 here as well fuel psi is at 16 and can only get needle to drop to 14. 5 at wot with smarty on. Very complete kit and great company to deal with. I a guy that is set up as a dealer for them for a very reasonable price and he sales replacement filters very cheap as well. He even answered my questions one night when i was installing it after hours.

Sounds like you got hooked up with some quality people there. I'm going to get the AirDog 95 for my truck.

I have the 95 airdog as well. . Very complete kit. . With the new Smarty beta for the CR, I don't know if it's necessary to stack. I dynoed with a smaller hp tune a little while back, and it made a peak hp of 543, and still pulled 500 hp at 3,930 rpm. HP stayed up even in the upper rpm's great. .

Well, that sounds about right for me. 500hp would be 'bout what I'm after, even 475hp wouldn't be too embarrasing. Which program did you use for those numbers?

What egt's are you at when you're putting that much to the ground?

Also, do you have oil or fuel cooler's? If so, which ones? I've got a 36" alum billet heat sink w/#10's in and out that I want to use somewhere, well, either fuel or oil. With the AirDog circulating so much fuel, I don't know how hot the fuel gets on the CTD's in our pick-ups. Does anyone have a figure on that?

Thanks again for your input Morse.

I still don't know what the tone ring/ ring tone mod is. Any help?

The tone ring is on the front end of your crank shaft, it's what your crank sensor is reading. If you get down on your hands and knees, and look at the end of the crank you will see what looks similar to a bicycle chain sprocket, that is the tone ring.

What people are doing is removing it, then you will see the four bolt holes and the hole for the stationary or guide pin. You can rheem that hole out to the left or counter clockwise, so you can install it further clockwise, clear as mud right!

A 1/8" will give you about 2 degrees advance on your timing. There should be some pictures on the site somewheres, do a search.

Right on, Jess. That seems fairly straight forward and kinda ez, but I've said that before. Thanks for the instructions.

I've searched every forum and have lots of hits on tone ring, but no how to's or pic's. I have to admit, I have fallen asleep a couple of times before I got all the way through so I might'a missed it.
