I have a almost bone stock 06 Megacab with 44k miles on it. I put gauges overhead to monitor boost, EGT and Trans about a year ago along with Mag Hytech dif and trans pans. I am going to upgrade to a suncoast TC, valvebody and input shaft in the next month. I would like to add a programmer and I don't know which ones to go with. I was always going to go with a Smarty but now the EFI system has come out I am not so sure. My buddy runs the EFI system in in GMC and really likes it. I am not looking to drag race at the strip but maybe surprise some kids every once in awhile :-laf. Also have to be practical since I will be pulling our new horse to events.

Smarty has always been the way to go for the Cummins, but I'm hearing a lot of good things about EFI Live. Do your homework...

-For evaluation purposes, we will have a Demo software available for free download from our
website. The Demo version can not save any changes made to a file and can not communicate with
the Smarty.
Can you provide a link to this demo? Could not find it on the Mads site.
With this new software will one be able to start with the 100% factory stock tune and just tweak parameters or will it always be working from a custom tune as the base parameters?

PS will this allow going back to older versions of the programs?

Good question Brods, the Smarty 411 software worked better on my truck, but I couldn't run it after I updated to the second Revo software.

The standard Smarty is good for most people. I have one on my truck and have no complaints. The majority of users would prefer a plug-n-play tuner... tune and forget about it.

For rest there is EFI Live and now, apparently, MADS UDC (Thanks Bob for posting that! Hadn't heard about it).

The guys who want EFI Live and UDC want more control and the ability to change things themselves.

The layout of the UDC is easier visually for me to follow than EFI. It just by initial looks to be less adjustable of major functions, kinda doesn't get in the weeds like EFI. But The info that has been released or speculated about UDC is very limited. No even rough idea of $, compatibility, or transfer-ability to the smarty hand held.

For instance can this be purchased and used for the JR with limited adjustment?
What other peramiters can be adjusted? EFI can even adjust the fuel tank level sensitivity and the half tank syndrome.

I would assume that UDC is timing the release to EFI's 03-06 upcoming version?

Bob we gotta know more, throw us a crumb.

Smarty and EFI are night and day different. With EFI, if you want 2 degrees of main timing at 55mm3 of commanded fuel at 80kpa of fuel pressure, you got. One injection event, you got it. But if you are not inclined to be a computer geek, EFI might not be for you. It's tedious work and takes a lot of time and patience tune yourself. But you have total control over the engine. You can buy tunes from other professionals and that may be a good thing. Different people, different ideas, different ways of doing things. Plus you can do specific dyno tuning. Smarty is a great produce but if you want more control, EFI is awesome. They just released the trans tuning and more is to come. I love my EFI but I'm going to need to get a pro to tune my truck as some point.
