HELLO
finnaly got my dodge and having a prob with the smell of burning oil. dident have the prob till i used pennzoil heavy duty
now have amlie and still having the same prob. and suggestions?????
thank you Jason

Hey Jason,
I wouldn't recommend using pennsoil AT ALL in the first place, use Amsoil,RedLine,or Delo 400 15w/40 and stick with Fleetguard oil filters too. The oil smell is just from the blowby tube, nothing to worry about... Greg

jaynes,
I think that your step-up is cool. In fact I heard that the mopar filters are fleetguards in a different wrapper(not sure on that though). I use WIX filters and Costal Fleet 15/40 that has the new mack diesel rating, I hope this is good, never had trouble #ad

I'm using the Amsoil 15w40 HD diesel and Marine oil with Amsoil full flow and by-pass filters. Also use the Amsoil air filter. No problems here.

I'm thinking about changing mine to extra Virgin Olive oil and a toilet paper oil filter conversion (I'd use those new double rolls to improve filtration).

What do you guys think? Should I consider running Canola oil instead to prevent degradation of the TP?

Anyway, all kidding aside, what's wrong with Penzoil? We used to run the 15W40 in our fishing boats and would add a quart of Slick 50 with every change.

Penzoil always worked out really well for us, the only problem we ever had was one time when we put in Quacker State and the oil pressure dropped off. We changed it out after a day or so and the oil pressure went back up to normal.

I'm serious about running either Syntech or Mobile 1.

I've been running Shell Rotella and don't notice any burning smells, did have the oil smell right after changes but goes away after a hundred or so miles.

I used Shell Rotella for a long time I think I'ts a decent oil. After hearing some truckers talking about Mobil Delvac I switched and it seems I maintain a little better oil pressure. Not much just a little. I have always liked Mobil products though.

I run the Fleetgard oil and fuel filters with either Shell Rotella T or Valvoline Premium Blue. Change intervals are 1/2 the normal recommended. Both brands of oil smell for a while after an oil change. Like Scott B , I noticed the Rotella does give a bit higher oil pressure hot.

Drop the Baldwin filters, they have a bad history with Cummins RE plugging the piston cooling jets with microfibres. Stick with Fleetgaurd as I have found the filters cheaper from Cummins than any other.

The only smell I get from the oil is right after a change you can smell the additives wofting out after the engine gets to temp. Usually only lasts a couple of days.
FWIW I use Esso XD3 0W-40 winter and 15W-40 summer.
