I am going to be working at Beale AFB for a couple of weeks, starting this week. They just informed me that I MAY need to get smogged to get a base pass. Another recent contractor from Colorado had a van (gas I assume) that failed, so they had to rent a vehicle locally to bring on the base.

Does anybody local to the Sacramento area know if diesels need to be smogged and if so, will a non CA vehicle stand a chance of passing the test? My 2001. 5 is stock in the power-train components with the exception of a 4" Jardine exhaust system.

Any comments or helpful advice would be appreciated.

I imported my '99 from out of state. I live in the Sacramento area and my truck has never been smogged. DMV told me all diesels are smog exempt. Hopefully it will stay that way.

thejeepdude is correct. We don't have to smog diesels, YET. The Pass and ID office should know this and you shouldn't have a problem getting on base.

CFAR,

I don't want to broadcast information on the board, however, I would be happy to discuss in private, shoot me an e-mail -- email address removed -- and I will respond. May even want to get together with you while I am there.

Jason,

The Pass and ID office did get back to me and confirmed that I don't need to smog test.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am always amazed at the wealth of knowledge here, and how quick one gets an answer.
