Smog difference in engines sold in CA?

Just starting to learn about diesel pickups and was wondering if there were any differences in post-2012 diesel pickups sold in CA? I'm getting ready to leave the state, so I could wait and buy somewhere else if the ones sold here have a lot of pointless crap on them. Thanks!
