Any of us have to pull over and submit to a unscheduled random smog opacity test while driving the CTD in California? Is this real?

i'm in san diego ca and have never even been required to have mine beasty smogged at all let alone any random shake downs.

i just did some registration and insurance changes last oct. no smog requirments.

where did you hear this?

jeff

sorry to burst your bubble, but right down the street from my firehouse chp (ca highway patrol) and cal trans set up a random station once a month during good weather. You drive by and they just pick you. It is a small trailer with a sniffer and a ramp. Saw many cars get pulled in but never a truck.

My son is in the Navy stationed in San Diego. The base told him he needed the 92 CTD smogged to get stickers. Being the good citizen he is he went down to testing station, after a little detuning, to get the certification. The tech drives it in and walks back out and says "this is a diesel, we don't smog diesels in California" and sent him on his way. Now it may be a local deal to smog check diesels but it sure ain't something required at the state level and we GOT that in WRITING!

Here in the Treasure Valley around Boise and Meridian, Ada county requires smog checks on all vehicles. Canyon county, right next door, does not require it and cannot get the citizens to approve it. Check your local codes as it may be required in problem areas.

there's no smog check for diesel pickup trucks in CA--end of story--if you get stopped for a sniffer test you just say that you were unaware that diesel pickups were being subjected to smog checks now--as you've never had to smog your truck when registering it--chris

true there is no "smog test" but, chp can and will pull you over for smoking. My uncle got an excessive smoke ticket pulling his fifth wheel.

Plus chris, you and I both know a couple of people that were reported to CARB and got those nice little letters in the mail requiring you to get your truck checked out by an ASE certified mechanic to "fix" the problem. Replacing a clogged air cleaner fixed things right up ;)

We dont have to have our trucks smogged for now.

I jsut got the renewal for mine and it didnt say anything about smog cert.

But with the way this state is, they could change that tomorrow just to get more $$$$$$$$$ IMHO.

? who would you rather see as Gov.

You must have been a Davis supporter and we all know where he took us :-laf

Well at least Davis stayed away from the gun issue ,he was an idiot . Arnold banned the 50 cal

which was totally stupid. Barret's coming out with a new . 441 cal more accurate. EAT ME Arnold

Smog Check & Ahnold

Smog Check - Bro-in-law runs a (Smog) Test Only shop

in Santa Clarita. Says State has told him they will

begin testing diesels "soon" - maybe next year?

Think that means simple "look & see" - hope you

saved your cat!

Ahnold: - has already taken more contributions than

Gray Davis ever did (one of his campaign promises that

he would "never" do).

Of course, all that $$ is from big business!

[If big business is -NOT- you . . . . bend over!]

Other States: - Just like low sulfur, and "50 state" vehicles,

most states will also jump on the bandwagon just like

Kalifornia. . . . ahhhh - make that "money-wagon".

[Test bucks = EZ bucks!]
