HELP HELP HELP, driving from CVS, engine starts misfiring and tons of blue smoke that smell like raw diesel burning, only able to go WOT at 2000 RPM. On a side note, the A PILLAR guages died or showed nothing, to include boost and FP. Has my VP died or is dying? Truck has 123000 on original VP. Please HELP!!!!

My own experience with a dead MAP sensor showed me the importance of getting a code reader and find out what companion code was set. P1693 just means that other codes were set, so you need to find out what they are.

If you know someone with a Smarty you can read the codes that way, or I think Pep Boys or Autozone or other similar places usually will read the codes for you for free.

Without knowing all the codes that were set you're kind of shooting in the dark. However, from your description it sounds like it might be the injection pump. Normally I'd suggest it might be a clogged fuel filter, but I wouldn't think that would trip any codes.

Good luck,
Mike

The 1693 sounds like the vp44 is going / gone. Have the injectors POP tested they should pop around 4500 psi. With a multi meter verify that there is power to the gauges.

So how could a dying VP cause his gauges to quit working?. I am not sold on the VP thing yet. Sounds like something else is going on.

The only other thing I could think of was a blown head gasket... . doubtful though. Only at 415HP with 10-20 LBS. of boost TOPS.

I had a suposed mechanic from justanswer.com (who claims he is Master ASE cert. mech in dodge..... specializes in Viper and Sprinter) and he claims a bad injector... . any ideas? Think he might be onto something here?

What type of pillar instrumentation, mechanical, electrical?. Did these stop working during the engine problems?. Could be a number of things, it just seems odd to me that instrumentation goes south the same time as engine.

Right now I am thinking electrical issues.

so, another horrible day and update

So brought it down to the local dealer, and suprise suprise, the first thing the mech says is I blew my lift pump. So the story moves on, I call FASS fuel systems, to find out that yes, there is an active warranty on the pump, but NO it doesnt transfer. It was installed before I bought it. And we still dont know if the VP is blown... . hopefully not... . Only rolled the truck 1/4 mile on the bad lift pump, so hopefully it didnt burnout the VP, will find out Thurs and will post results. Thanks again guys for all the hlp

Did you check to make sure the boots are all on the intake tubes? That could explain the smoke/no power.

The dealer probably just looked at your truck and said (to themselves) 'yup, never had that lift pump replaced, let's start there'.
