Have a good friend with a 6. 7 auto 4x4 3. 73 geared truck. 17k on it. It set a cel a while back and got a new turbo, picked it up from dealer and about 10 miles later died in the road and no restart. Towed in. They replaced the DPF and did the latest flash update. Ran ok for a week or so But smokes pretty heavy enough to blacken the rolling lab trailer he pulls and tailpipe bad sooty, can see smoke from pass mirror etc. Says tons of power but in the tank on mpg. Took back in and they pulled a very carboned up egr off and because none available per Chrysler to use a special cleaner, let soak several hours, clean etc. Picked truck up. Runs the same, pretty heavy smoke, tons of power and fuel mpg still rotten. Was told a recall was n the works but he has no idea on what parts if any will be replaced etc. I told him I think the DPF will fail again with excess smoke etc. and he is nervous about stalling in the the middle of nowhere with 75k of rolling lab hooked up. Any thoughts?

Most likely the DPF is cracked/damaged. If the dealer pulls off the outlet pipe on the DPF, the DPF color should be snow white. If you see any black tracking it is damaged in that area.
