I've noticed for about the last several months my trucks seems to smoke at idle, don't remember it doing it before, I've got BullyD III's and a comp almost always set on 1x1. The III's have been in for about 2 years, and 40k miles. Is this normal or are the III's wearing out and I'll have to buy some new warp coils?

Smoke by the way is a light haze most noticable when wind pushes it through the headlights. Other than these slight mods the truck is stock, hahahahahahahahahahahahaha(maniacal laughter)

could be...

Could be clogged air filter, clogged fuel filter, restricted fuel flow. check these.

I just had my VP-44 replaced, but it went south pretty quick. It had white smoke at idle, but under throttle looked like i was exterminating skeeters until it warmed up.

Hope this helps,

Wiredawg

Good one, I hadn't thought of that, I took my flashlight out a couple of nights ago and couldn't see any smoke from the tail pipe, I'll have to check the tube.

I had the same problem as Wiredawg untill I got my VP-44 changed out by the dealer and now... . not as much power but I have no smoke.

Yep, codes posted: PCM 1693 and ECM 217. Coded 217 is injection pump not responding to timing signal. The check engine light never came on however.

BTW, I need to start a separate post about the '02 diagnostic software reading ECM codes on the odometer display. Before, you would only get the code 1693, which meant that codes had been received from the ECM, but required having them read by an OBD II scanner. Neat!

Nope, I it checked a few times during my troubles and never did have any codes.

The only problem I was really having was hard starting, especially at high altitudes. I didn’t mind the smoke but by the time I got the starting problem fixed the smoke was gone. I think the VP 44 was overfueling from idle to WOT. It ran great but was hard to start on the mountain.
