HOW to tune up SMARTY s06 pod with NEW MODS?

Hi fellow TDR members! I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction with figuring out a smoke/haze problem...

Truck is a 2004. 5 600 with X-monitor, 90hp DDP injectors, K&N Intake (Amsoil dry filter though), 4" Diamond Eye SS exhaust and a SMARTY. When I originally installed the REVO program, I was almost disappointed, because compared to the older SMARTY programs, it did not make as much smoke.

Problem now is that even without the SMARTY loaded, the truck makes a pretty good smoke puff until Turbo is up on boost, and when driven harder or towing, will produce a smoke haze trail almost constantly.

Here is what I have tried and checked so far -

1) As stated, unload SMARTY - still get puff and haze trail. Not as much, but still there...

2) New Air filter to assure it was not plugged up with crud.

3) Boost (figured maybe boost leak) - registering up to 26-28 psi until WOT, does not seem to be a boost leak

4) Ran several tanks with DieselKleen and PowerService in them to assure injectors were not gunked up

5) EGTs - seem in normal range with and without SMARTY, no real up or down in the readings

6) Valve adjustment - valves were adjusted when injectors were installed 75k ago

Truck seems to idle fine and smooth. Runs good. Power seems reasonable (miss the SMARTY!), Fuel economy seems in the normal ballpark.

So, questions -

a) Fuel filter - would/could a fuel filter cause or contribute to this?

b) Injectors - have been in for 75k miles - do they wear out? (I have never run pressure on mine, so I would not think cracked tips)

c) Lift pump - I have the factory lift pump still on the side of the motor - would low lift pump pressure or volume cause smoke? (I did not think so, but ?)

d) What else should I check, look at or take apart to find out why the change in the smoke produced?

I would appreciate any and all comments on where to go from here, as I do not know where to look next? I don't like smoking up my trailers unless I choose to...

Thanks in advance for your help and knowledge!

Hi TC, Thanks for the reply and question...
No haze at idle at all - seems to idle very clean with no haze or visible output.
Puzzling!

when mine states to smoke more than normal i run the additive, clean the air filter and change my fuel filter. the fuel filter does seem to help. I keep a spare under the back seat.

Thanks for the feedback... I recently changed the air filter and have run the additive. That leaves the fuel filter which I will try next (have some on order)...

Appreciate the input!

Thanks Todd - I got this late, so I will give you a call tomorrow to see if we can sort it out.

To answer your questions, stock rail pressure and stock turbo...

Thanks,

-DG

What Turbo? and What rail Pressure? If you want to expedite narrowing it down just call. ask for Todd.
