Minor question (I hope).

Returning from a 100mile trip, at the 75 mile point I had to go slowly down a pretty steep hill with a traffic light at the bottom. All brake no throttle. Stopped at the light, turned left and started up a hill. Throttle down.

The Controller of the Currency (my wife) who was following me, reports that a pretty good puff of smoke was put out by the rig when I started away from the light.

Normal?

Thanks any info. J Golden

I used to get a small puff of whiteish smoke on occasion after a certain long down hill I travelled often and turning to the right. It would quickly get overcome by the black smoke if I leaned on the go pedal.

I have no idea if the right turn had anything to do with it. I don't think it did.

I attributed it to very cold EGT/cylinder temps after the long hill and not being able to burn the sudden fuel dump into the cylinders. I would see EGT drop under 250F and approach 200F while coasting down that hill.

At least that is my theory.

Grey/white smoke Basic 89 issue VE pump. fuel turned up a bit or two.

Jay, It was a left turn, that could have been the problem. Right turns are prohibited in NY.

Unless you are driving a UPS truck. They don't turn left. It must work, the company saved like 2 million gallons of fuel the 1st year they started it.

Joe, I don't think it's abnormal to get a puff like that under those conditions. I know I've puffed a few clouds in my day. :D
