Greetings,I turned my smoke screw in 2 1/2 turns and don't really feel a difference if at all. My question would be is it possible to go more or is there a maximum  unclemarc

You will probably need some injectors before you notice a big difference, the 91. 5 to 93 dont respond as well to pump adjustments as the earlier trucks do. Also you can do a lot with the afc.

Thanks for the info,I'll do some more research for my next plan of attack. Is it very hard to do injectors?. Also do you recommend any one type in particular?. unclemarc

I Used A Set Of 190 Hp Bosch Injectors From Piers Along With A Smaller Turbo Housing And A Low Restriction Air Filter System. It Is No Power House But It Runs Much Better. I Never Touched The Pump At All.

The "smoke screw adj. " is pretty much worthless if your hoping to "feel a difference" in the way the engine responds.

You want to feel a difference you need to install 60# valve springs and operate the engine with a 3200 gov spring and a modified throttle/pump linkages.

fuelscrew adj.

Thanks for the info,I do limited towing-hauling so I'm wondering if the 16cm housing would be best. What about the compressor side?,any thoughts. Thanks unclemarc

The smaller sized housings will net you better bottom end feel but can become restrictive on the top end. When towing you may want to steer away from hi fuel and small housing combo.

A 16 would be nearly ideal for towing and better bottom end feel.

A nice compressor size is the 58mm or perhaps a 60. There are also hi-flow versions as well. These wheels are thicker or wider than the standard unit and require some machine working of the backing plate. It's nearly endless possibilities.

Thanks greenleaf that should point me in the right direction, would it be worth it to just upgrade instead of changing out the housings?.

Only U can answer that.

Try the 16 for a spell and when you feel you'll need mo air, then try sending your unit to Piers or HTT for a rework or pick ya up a new or used HX that has been messaged.

Check out the web site for Piers Diesel or High Tech Turbo. Lots of info there on what mods they offer for whater unit your interested in.

AFC adjustments

I concur with Greenleaf on the smoke screw adjustments- they are pretty much unnoticeable. I would try rotating your AFC cone to the max setting, maybe do some work on it with a Dremmel grinder toward the top of it. I noticed a 4-5psi increase in peak boost by that alone, still appear to get the same MPGs as before.

The H1C is efficient to about 25psi or so. Beyond that, it takes more drive pressure to get an increase in boost. And, if in doubt about which size upgrade to get, it is better to have the air and not need it than it is to have to watch the pyrometer up a hill instead of traffic. You DO have a pyrometer and boost gauge, right? If not, get one, 40psi boost; standard pyrometer.

Your sig is unclear, do you have a 5 spd manual, or OD auto? If'n it's 5 speed, I can tell you I like my 14cm housing on stock turbo. My fuel pin is on the deep side, smoke screw and fuel screws in 1/2 turn each. All else being stock aside from the muffler delete, I am quite happy with the way it runs and tows.

I have the 4spd o/d in my rig with 140,000 miles,What concernes me is if I start turbo upgrades will my transmixer decide to go south in a big hurry?. unclemarc.

Only if you install a much tighter TC as the weak TC will not allow the engine power to reach the wheels. (or a lock-up tc) It simply builds heat inside the TC/Transmission so watch that if your running the 1/4 mile repeatedly during hot weather.

Flex plate. That will likely need addressed if you hot rod the thing with 1/4miles and burn-outs etc.

Pain to install but they are worth it and inexpensive too.

From what I've been reading on the sight, the 89%tc is the best way to go. When I used to repo bikes I drove a 02 1-ton 24 valver, when they put in a new trans and t/c it was all that truck could do to get moving Idon't want to go down that road again. unclemarc.
