I have a 2001 Quad with the 5-speed and I just installed a new injection pump, new FASS pump a set of 120 EDMs and a Htb2 64/14 with a Edge juice with Attitude running the fuling and timing. I now am experiencing a steady stream of smoke under normal acceleration on stock or mileage setting, when its on level 5 the cars behind me dissappear. Turbo seems real slow compared to my stock one and dosent boost over 33psi my old one would boost 35. As you can imagin my milage dropped from 17 to about 10. Any ideas on what I should do. Thanks

I agree, i have mine wastegated at 45 and it runs great. you are going to be a little laggier than your old turbo, but i have gotten used to it and learned how to drive it. hope its just the wastegate!

you should have a little brass elbow that has a allen screw in it, run the screw in as needed to reach the desired boost level. the brass elbow is at the turbo end of the hose to the wastegate

A boost controller is much better but that adjustable elbow is much cheaper. I'm pretty sure that HTT and II turbos don't come with one though.

Thanks for your help on this matter, I've got a new boost elbow ordered and on the way. I let you know if this is the fix. Thanks again.

learning how to drive the new setup will do more for smoke control than a lot of adjustments. you have to roll into the throttle on the street to allow boost to come up before you throw a ton of fuel in it. stomp it from a standstill and the world will disappear!

I just had the same problem with my truck. I sent the turbo back & got a htb 62/14 & the truck is so much more fun to drive & alot less smoke, cooler egt's, quicker spool [about 1200 it lights up] compared to 1700 with the 64. I did the adjustable boost elbow & crimped the wastegate shut on the 64 & it still wouldn't spool till 1700. I would do the same thing again today. send it back, get a 62/14 & you'll thank me later. ;)

Thanks AFARMER, Im a farmer too. The adjustible boost elbow worked great, now I can boost to 40+ psi and the smoke clears up quite quickly now. I dont understand why they sent my turbo with a free flowing boost elbow but the new one did the trick. Thanks again :)

did someone say smoke?

your upgrades wont help the milage :( and keeping your foot out of the throttle will help as well. even with my current setup and with my comp turned off i have a slight haze (shows at night real well with a car behind me)

just wondering why the gated boost controller is better?... . they are doing the same thing

It keeps the waste gate closed until the desirded pressure then opens it to maintain the set pressure, boost elbows will start to open the gate at a lower pressure then slowly open as the pressure increases. I seen a huge increase in spool time going from a boost elbow to a gated controller.
