Camper Package

Hello,

Recently I've seen a lot of smoke soot gathering on my rear bumper and I clean it off right away. Usually after highway driving is when it's noticeable. Also where the soot accumulates it looks like the plating on the bumper is actually coming off and was wondering if this was normal or something of a defect in the plating process of my bumper.

Truck only has 4,800 miles on it so I was going to take it back to the dealer and ask them if this was normal. Any insight appreciated.
Thanks

Mine did it as well, until I installed a turn down. But it collects on the aluminium fender of my trailer and has stained it too. The soot is acidic and actually eats into the surface it lands on if left there. The dealers I talked to about it really had nothing to say.

Hoefler,

Thanks for the reply and I'll purchase a turn down. Taking it in this week to get cab lights put on and I'll discuss the bumper issue then with the dealer. I would hope if it's an issue thats always been there, they should have provided a turn down to start with. We'll see if that goes over well, if not, lesson learned :)

Thanks again

:-laf Its a diesel. It's supposed to do that. If you think its bad now, try tossing a little 2 stroke oil in the tank... you'll brown out headlights at night:)

Trust me, you take it to the dealer to get it "fixed", they'll find something to screw up. Silly rabbit, invisible exhaust is for gassers!

I just clean mine regularly and put a thick coat of wax on the quarter panel and bumper end. An extended exhaust tip might help keep some of away from the panel.
You think it's bad now, wait till you go for more power :D

Just say no to turn downs:-laf

Wow, okay guys and gals, I get it. I'll just get the down connection, wax it real good and wear it as a badge of honor.
Thanks

I eliminated/reduced the soot on the bumper and painted surface by installing -

EXHAUST TIP - MEGS - STAINLESS STEEL ('94-'07 DODGE)

you might want to check your air filter if it get worse other than that i just draw smiley faces in the soot
