Hey, I've been noticing that there is smoke coming from under the hood. When I open the hood, the fan is blowing but it looks like it is coming from the back part of the engine. I looked best I could and don't see any oil on the engine back there. I smells like burned engine oil. I thought maybe it was an exhaust leak at first but it shouldn't be smoking like this at idle plus it just doesn't seem like exhuast. Anybody have any good ideas on what it could be?I can't tell which side because of all the air blowing it around. Thanks

Maybe one of your valve covers is loose, or the rubber that seals it cracked or something along those lines. Which would let it run down onto the exhaust manifold and there would be your smoke and smell.

I had thought about that one but the gaskets are new. I had that problem with #6 but has been fixed for a while. I looked all around the exhaust manifold and there appears to be no new oil getting on it.

Not getting too much help with this one I see. Well I am guessing you checked to see if you have lost any manifold bolts. Also a little experience I had. I had a metal gasket, same as between the head and manifold, between the spacer plates and my top charger. The bolts loosened up and the exhaust actually destroyed the gaskets in a very very short amount of time. If its not the manifold possibly the clamp to your downpipe or a hole other wise I am outta ideas. I am curious though as to what it is.

I think you're seeing blowby smoke. Maybe your blowby hose came off? It runs from the tappet cover on the driver's side and through a tube about 1" in diameter down toward the front axle.

I had thought about the blowby, but hadn't checked it yet. I actually haven't seen the hose before so I have to find it I guess. I'll keep checking and hopefully that is what it is.
