I'm sure this has been covered many times, but my searches didn't give the results I was looking for... .

What are the side effects of smoke?

Injector fouling?

Oil fouling?

Cylinder wash down?

A 4in exhaust should help a stock turbo spool up faster thus reducing low rpm smoke. Right?

(I'm thiking ahead for when I install injectors)

P. S. I drive a route where I see no less than 5 or 6 cops a day- so anything that keeps them looking the other way is good;)

What are the side effects of smoke?

Smoke is unburnt fuel and your money out the tail pipe in the form of air pollution.

Perhaps the worst side effect of smoke is that it causes a poor public perception of all diesels leading to more stringent emissions requirements for all of us.

clarification

I'm trying to avoid smoking. I've got better things to do than smoke out hippies and idiot drivers while fouling my engine.

I'm trying to verify my assumptions of the side effects of smoke.

If you're worried.........

About smoke that is, stay stock!!

If you need more power, the right foot can adequately control the smoke.

You can have power and no smoke!

I assume your talking black smoke (warm engine). I would pay attention to oil changes if one likes to see lots of black smoke. I mean lots. The occasional puff until boost builds is no biggy. That is all the black smoke I have and it is almost not noticeable. My soot levels have never got over . 4% with over 24K miles on the same oil. I am well over 300Hp and pretty smoke free. I like it that way!
