I've recently went through the injector pump blues. First replacing the fuel filter, lift pump, adjusting valves, then replacing the VP44 to clear the dreaded 1693 and 0216 codes, and fix a "flooding like" condition as well as the bad fuel mileage. After replacing the VP44, my truck is now running great (no more hesitation), mileage seems to be back to normal and the codes are gone. However now it smokes horribly when first starting off (second gear and sometimes 3rd) and seems to be worse when driving in warmer weather 80's+. Seems like it's running rich? Before the lift pump and injection pump problem, my truck never smoked (AT ALL), not even when I was WOT from a dead stop. Anybody got any ideas what I should look into to fix it? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Jeff

WELL... Just FYI.....

Took it back to the dealer, they said nothing was wrong, but they did acknoledge the smoke and said that it could be because of the new design in the replacement injector pump (I don't think my truck is the only thing blowing smoke). They suggested trying injection system cleaner (BG 44K) and if that didn't work, then a complete injection system flush. Trying the 44K now. we'll see.
