I have a 92 that seems to smoke excessivly cold. Goosing it in neutral it sputters and smokes the worst. Accelerating through mid rpm range will do the same. I can short shift it to keep it from smoking. Once it warms up the smoking goes away. This is my first ctd so I do not know much about it other than it has the rotary bosch pump. Otherwise it seems to be ok power wise.

TSB Solenoid!! Make sure the supply wire is still attached. Vibration can cause it to loosen and fall off. Loss of the timing advance (it's function on a cold engine) will do exactly what you are experienceing. Had it happen to me when I first got my truck. Eventually found the problem, with the help of this forum. Fixed the wire - problem GONE! Oo.

Here is my thread on the problem (on 01/16/2002): https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32600

It's the southern drawl Bruce has picked up since he moved south :-laf

Sorry Bruce. . couldn't resist

I will check into the ksb wiring Thanks. The truck idles great on cold start and it is not hard to start, and in matter of fact it starts too easy in my opinion for 200,000 but I am used to seeing diesels in Mercedes and VW's.
