Interesting development I thought would be interesting to others:

Was hauling firewood this weekend... 18 foot trailer of stacked wet (not green, WET) firewood, figure about 4+ FULL cords of wood on the trailer. Trailer is rated for 10k... I had the tires squished out pretty good, figure I was way over 10k (only had to move about 1/2 mile on backroads).

Was using 4wd low to manuever around the site... it was muddy and slippery.

Got done for the day (splitting and loading), headed for home... had hubs locked in (dynatrac kit), but in 2wd. About 100yards from the driveway where we were splitting, I have a gear crunching SNAP that shakes the truck... but nothing else follows... figured I broke a spring... but had the airbags inflated, so I didn't think that was it.

Get home, nothing broke? Went to leave the parents driveway Sunday morning (with empty trailer) and started spinning one tire and then for no reason the thing almost "clicks" (so apparent you can feel it engage) and we start moving forward with Posi?

Now keep in mind, I have always felt this LSD was a POS... it acted like an open diff more than a LSD. Now it works like I always though it SHOULD have worked... spin one wheel a little and the other starts to hook up... and this is at 93k miles... I had towed around 7k before, but nothing this heavy by far. The 300+ mile drive home Sunday night was uneventful.

So all knowing TDR forum users, tell me what happened? Was a drive in the LSD hung up all this time?

i know i have a different axle but I had one tire spinning and then all of a sudden both went to spinning and when I pulled the cover off the axle spider gear pieces fell out.

Yeah, I know some of the Dana LSDs have issues... never had a problem with them myself other than worn clutches...

Like I said it only made the one snap, now it actually seems to be working the way the LSD should... makes no abnormal noises or shudders...

I haven't had time to pull the plug... that in itself should tell me a lot if there is any metal on the magnet or the fluid looks weird.

I would pull the cover and the axles. Several times I have heard a snap, and it has been spider gears, axles. You might be lucky and could just be a ujoint.
