Well, the wife finally put her foot down, saying enough is enough. "Your truck is just too loud!" I disagree, but in order to maintain marital bliss, I agreed to install a muffler.

The muffler arrived today, so all I have to do now is install it. I might do it this weekend at the Big NW BOMB fest at Rob's house, but I'm not sure.

Which muffler did I get, you might ask? I got the Dynomax Ultra Flo #17223. This is a 3" in/out straight through design muffler. I'm not sure how much it will quiet down the truck, but hey, it's a muffler! I ordered it from Summit Racing after getting a few local quotes. All the local guys think this muffler is made of gold, and charge accordingly. I paid about $67 delivered to my door. Sniff, I'm going to miss my straight pipe. Good buy "Rabid Garbage Truck Club!"

I've got that muffler on my 89. Sounds really good. Enjoy.

Ah, not so fast grasshopper, is it not better to let the beast breath than to smother the life giving sounds of the unmuffled power producing, Ford/Duracrap embrassing creature.

When my wife complained about my now proper sounding Cummins, I removed the back seat, installed 1/2 of rubber on the back of the cab, below the rear window. This alone brought the sound level in the cab back to stock levels, but to make sure there was no additional complaints, out came the front seats, door panels and all interior trim. In went layers of rubber glued and taped to all surfaces, including the inside of the doors behind the door glass, as well as the complete floor.

My goal was to insulate the complete cab. It's now much quieter (inside only #ad
) without the muffler, than it was with it.

My wife was giving me grief about my straight pipe last night. Not saying I won, but I am taking a stand on this, and the pipe is still there. Insulating the cab might be a good idea.

She is not so much annoyed with the sound when she is inside, but when I'm coming home and coming into the garage! She happened to be driving next me the other day, going up a 7% grade. I floored it and almost blew her doors off! #ad
I think that is when she decided the straight pipe had to go. Bah! We'll see how it sounds with the muffler, but that **** cat is not going back on!

See my post in Products & Accessories called "New Muffler Design".

Maybe you could insert the muffler into the tail pipe when you are going to pull into the garage. Yank it out when after you leave the house. #ad

JC Whitney offers a device made for situations like this. It's a cable controlled Y shaped butterfly valve that you install ahead of the cat or muffler. Pull the cable one way and the exhaust flows normally though the cat and muffler, pull it the other way and it dumps the exhaust right there at the valve. Great for those who like it loud, having the exhaust exit right under the passenger floorboard. Largest size they offered, though there may be more, was 3"OD,cost around $125,had to be welded in,butterfly is stainless steel.

Wait a minute! Whose truck is it any way?
Stand up for yourself man! What's she going to do take away your keys?
4" straight to 5" tip now that's loud!
Momma knows when daddys comin' home!
