It's a proven fact now that on my truck the snorkel causes a whoop-whoop sound like a tire about to blow AND causes the filter minder to set as though I had a dirty air filter. Anyone else???
I have a auto transmission and mine will do the same thing if I power stall the truck and I threw the snorkle in the trash years ago. I think it is caused by high boost and then letting off on the throttle too fast.
holes in my snorkel 3/4" about 6 off them on the bottom of it. It works real well and less turbo whine. I tried it with the snorkel removed and didn't like like that much noise.
Back in the days of running a stock airbox, I put a K&N in & went out for a test run. When I came back The snorkle was gone. I though it had fell out on the road somewhere. When I opened up the airbox it was inside seems as though there is enough vaccum there to really suck some air. That also proved to me that the stock air box was not allowing enough air, so I cut the entire end area out that the snorkle resided in. This allowed plenty of air. I now use a full K&N intake system & that airbox setup is in a buddys truck, working fine.
Mine does it too. I pulled it out and set it on the shelf. The downside is more noise. But better more air than less noise. That and mine is pretty well butchered up and drilling holes in it wouldn't work now. Oh well. I just keep punching holes in the air box for now.
