How do you test for a bad injector on an '03?

Engine hiccup? A little long, but I need your help!

I just got back from my first trip running the water/meth. injection. I towed a 36' triple axel 5er from Ne. to Ct. , was grossing 24,680. No real long steep grades til I got to Pa. , there I had some 4 to 9 mi. 5 to 6% grades. Was running straight water, and it was cooling the egt's at least 200*, and water temps never got over 205*, ambient temp. was 84 to 86*. I'm real happy with it, egt's never got over 1050* when using it, and went to 1250-1275* without using it. I have Mat's 8 gal. tank mounted in the bed with the pump mounted on the frame just under, and ahead of the tank. I thought at first the 8 gal. tank would be really over kill, but I used up the first tank in about 350 mi. , but had to do a lot of adjusting on the Hobbs switch. It was initially coming on at about 22#, and secondary at 34#, now have it coming on at 26# and 34#, and should use less water. In the low altitude back there I was running 37-40# boost. I hope the next trip will get me in the mountains to better check it out.

Larry. . keep us posted. . looks like good results , I too bought one for towing heavy, and maybe an occasional squirt of meth in it on a play day :D

also post on NWB with this info

I bought an aquamist system for my bike in the spring. Sounds like a similiar setup, although the Aquamist system can be computer controlled (which is what I got) for a true 3D map. As in the amount of water injection can be dynamic by RPM and Boost. For my app this was the better way to go and I've thought about putting it on the truck because it's so dynamic; you can control everything on it, not just amount of water, but where it's at. Anyway, just my $. 02, but it's worth a look at if your going to do injection.

I completley understand how the W/M works but how hard is it at a 50/50 mix on components (turbos, head, internals) compared to NOS?

Cliffman, short answer is yes. You have a situation where as as idle or anytime not under boost (while under vac) you could actually pull water in the intake; although there are easy ways around this. I have installed a 1 bar check value to eliminate this. As far as normal operations, not after it's adjusted. When I was tuning the bike initially there becomes a point that you lose HP on the top end from to much water, not enough fuel (when I was running straight H2O). At that point there isn't a problem or any more of a problem then with gas blowing by in the the pan. I'm sure there are extreme cases, or cases when something fails, etc. But there normally shouldn't be any problem.

MattyMac, 2 differnet animials. NOS is very hard on components when it comes on, although with staged controllers it could lessen the blow. Water is natural and good for the engine to a degree. You basically are steam-cleaning your cylinder/valves, etc. Which is a good thing.
