Its that time of year again, and were due for a big one here in southern New England. I'm cobbling together a snowplow for use on my property. I have most of it figured out and assembled, but heres the question: I have an older Western joystick style controller and electric hydraulic pump. The whole setup is identical to the older fisher joystick style. Has control cables that trigger the pump. There is a starter solenoid that appears to need to be connected to the battery, and the pump. There is one wire comming from the joystick controller that appears to need to be connected to the solenoid.

Something isnt quite right. When I connect the solenoid to the battery, the plow pump starts running, nothing short of disconnecting the solenoid gets it to stop. This is with the control wire disconnected! Yes I tried another solenoid, and same thing.

I'm hoping one of the thousands of members here may be able to point me to a wiring diagram for this thing. I did several web searches but found nothing helpful.

Thanks

Mark

Mark, I sold off my older setups years ago,My cousin still has one of those westerns left, they are a good system. Im not positive on this, but the single wire from the controller on mine grounded in the up,left or right position,as the cable opened the right valve the pump would run. Im sure you wil get your question answered here by someone who still had one,and can run out to the shop, and look at how there is wired. It may be something as simple as the controller needing to be adjusted. Try this, lots of good info here, its one of my favorite sites. http://www.plowsite.com

Call Dennis or Rob at Precision Hydraulics in Hyde Park MA. That is pretty much all they do this time of year. I've known them for about 15 years. They have doen good by me not only with plow parts but with heavy hydraulics too. Their number is (617) 361-4333.

snow man. . thanks for the link... good site ... the west coast guys have fewer places to go in small area / towmships, a site like this is very helpful for repairs and parts suppliers

I'm buy Yosemite National Park ['bout hour north +/- a couple min. ] and use a myers on my old FJ40

Thanks for all the good info guys! I will see what I can come up with this weekend. I keep dreading every forecast that mentions snow since the plow isn't quite ready yet. It's nice peace of mind having a functioning plow in the winter. :)
