So cant register 4500/5500 in CA now

Not disagreeing w/p-Bar, and unsure of title--for personal, for commercial, new, used, etc.? CA automatically defaults any pickup to commercial use unless it has a camper permanently attached so I imagine 4500/5500 are the same. IIRC something you can't register is a pre-2007 medium-duty in CA for business use unless it has a 2007-or-later engine package (including after treatment). But on Ram's build-and-price today for two CA zip codes it shows a diesel is either standard or optional for most 2024 4500/5500, although you can't get one in a 4500 SLT. I know Ram's done some weird things but I'd be really surprised if they were selling trucks in a state (especially near the coast) where you couldn't register it.

They have done this to all big rigs too. I have a lot of friends in the dump truck business and they let them put particulate filters on and that worked for a few years. Then it was get it out of the state. Now these rigs are in the next state being a gross polluters. Doesn't make sense.

@p-Bar My little car, all stock and OEM parts, flunked it's emissions test with NOx ppm 8% above limit at the low speed test (~15 mph)...what I get for measured CO of 0.00% and 9 ppm HC. I'm confident that driving my std-spec 33-year-old Cummins while "fixing" (no problems found yet) and not driving the little car is really helping air quality.

Yeah I get it. My 89 Dakota flunked also had to massage it to get it to pass. Good thing is they (CARB) can't screw with 2500 and 3500 trucks.
