I figured its time to follow up on my last post (Dealer made a mistake???). To bring the newbies up to speed, I placed my order for my new 3500 SRW, SWB back in October. Nearly six months later, it finally shows up at the dealer, only it turned out to be a LWB, despite the fact that I had a printout of the order that I signed with the correct body code. (It really makes me wonder why D-C refuses to include a description or WB size in the line with the body code?)

So the dealer set out to find another truck. Of course with all the production delays and TOTALLY INEPT TRANSPORTATION/DELIVERY SYSTEM, dealers here in the east have little inventory of popular models such as the 3500 SWB. With a truck located 350 miles away, the dealer started to drag his feet. My feeling was that under the circumstances, they should be going out of their way to be sure I would be a satisfied customer. The days went by, with no movement to actually get the truck, and with each conversation another financial issue would be brought up. After a week, it became apparent that they would expect an additional $3500. in order to make the deal. During this time it became evident that I had been lied to on certain matters. I finally made the decision that if I was to spend more than I had budgeted, I would be sure to give the business to someone honest.

After yet more hours of internet searching I zeroed in on several Chevrolets at local dealers. I researched some dealer cost numbers, and called the owner of the local Chevrolet dealer whom I had last purchased a 91 Blazer from. In about 10 minutes on the phone, we were close enough to a deal that I told him I would come in to discuss matters further and he could appraise my 97 Ram. We made the deal that day, Wednesday, and when I suggested that my credit union might be closed on Good Friday, he said not to worry, just pick up the truck and pay for it when I got the money!

I got my deposit on the Ram refunded yesterday and today, Friday, the credit union was in fact open, so I paid for and am now driving a new Silverado Crew Cab SWB 2500HD (9200# GVWR) with the new Duramax LLY and Allison transmission. Its black with polished alloy rims and chrome tubular steps, a sharp truck.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE TDR MEMBERS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THESE FORUMS. I certainly do not regret spending my money to join TDR as what I have learned here is invaluable. This is by far the best online forum of it's type. For now I'll be lurking over at The Diesel Page and will stop by here to lurk occassionally as well.

Thanks and good luck with all your trucks!

Sorry to hear of your dealer woes JLockart and you were unable to get the truck you wanted.

I think the Duramax/Allison combo has established a decent track record and the truck you bought will serve you fine. A friend of mine picked one up about 5 months ago and he's happy with it. I drove it once and thought it was nice (wouldn't trade my Cummins for it tho!).

Take care and maybe I'll see you on GM-diesel.com. . . I wander over occasionally 'cause I bought a beater '82 Blazer with the 6. 2 :)

John, I'm sorry we lost you. I wish I would have known you were doing this, because less than 1. 5 hours east on the PA turnpike sits, at my original dealer, the truck I had ordered in January, which they *finally* brought up from port last Monday. I had already walked due to their ineptitude, and it was too little, too late. I found a truck I like better! As of Wednesday, my salesman was STILL calling me, pleading to return and do the deal. I'm sure he got his butt chewed for losing the sale, especially after I explained the situation to the general manager of the dealership (which, in retrospect) I should have done in the first place. I'm glad now found the truck I did (600, dually, Laramie). More than I was originally going to spend, but hey...

Anway, the truck I ordered, which I'm sure they won't have any trouble selling, is a NICELY optioned SLT, 3500 srw quad shorty, which I believe is the config you were looking for.

I'm not going to bash the Chevy. I think it's a nice-looking truck, and while the original Duramaxes may have had some injector issues, the new LLY looks to be a good engine.

Good luck with it, and stop in here and over on DTR from time to time. Considering you're in Dillsburg, I'm sure I'll see you at Kauffman's dyno sometime.

That's a shame that a dealer would harpoon you into having to go get your second choice of trucks. I wouldn't have waited either for 6 months either. In 1995 we ordered a Tahoe LT and it took 3 months and we went and bought a Mercedes E320, so you've got more patience than me.

You'll have fun with the Chevy.

At least you stayed with the diesel!!
