I figured its time to follow up on my last post (Dealer made a mistake???). To bring the newbies up to speed, I placed my order for my new 3500 SRW, SWB back in October. Nearly six months later, it finally shows up at the dealer, only it turned out to be a LWB, despite the fact that I had a printout of the order that I signed with the correct body code. (It really makes me wonder why D-C refuses to include a description or WB size in the line with the body code?)
So the dealer set out to find another truck. Of course with all the production delays and TOTALLY INEPT TRANSPORTATION/DELIVERY SYSTEM, dealers here in the east have little inventory of popular models such as the 3500 SWB. With a truck located 350 miles away, the dealer started to drag his feet. My feeling was that under the circumstances, they should be going out of their way to be sure I would be a satisfied customer. The days went by, with no movement to actually get the truck, and with each conversation another financial issue would be brought up. After a week, it became apparent that they would expect an additional $3500. in order to make the deal. During this time it became evident that I had been lied to on certain matters. I finally made the decision that if I was to spend more than I had budgeted, I would be sure to give the business to someone honest.
After yet more hours of internet searching I zeroed in on several Chevrolets at local dealers. I researched some dealer cost numbers, and called the owner of the local Chevrolet dealer whom I had last purchased a 91 Blazer from. In about 10 minutes on the phone, we were close enough to a deal that I told him I would come in to discuss matters further and he could appraise my 97 Ram. We made the deal that day, Wednesday, and when I suggested that my credit union might be closed on Good Friday, he said not to worry, just pick up the truck and pay for it when I got the money!
I got my deposit on the Ram refunded yesterday and today, Friday, the credit union was in fact open, so I paid for and am now driving a new Silverado Crew Cab SWB 2500HD (9200# GVWR) with the new Duramax LLY and Allison transmission. Its black with polished alloy rims and chrome tubular steps, a sharp truck.
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE TDR MEMBERS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THESE FORUMS. I certainly do not regret spending my money to join TDR as what I have learned here is invaluable. This is by far the best online forum of it's type. For now I'll be lurking over at The Diesel Page and will stop by here to lurk occassionally as well.
Thanks and good luck with all your trucks!
