Isspro EV's are SWEET! They even have glass lenses.

Anyway, I have one pyro in the #3 cylinder where it was easy to tap and drill w/o chunks making their way into the turbo.

I talked to a diesel mechanic the other day that told me that he usually drills the 2nd pyro on the exhaust manifold just above the turbo (where #5 dumps in).

I asked him how long it would take to drop the turbo to do the job, and his response was that he doesn't. He told me that between the greased drill bit and the greased tap, there aren't enough shavings to make a difference.

I can't believe he'd do that on his own truck. I don't think I'll let him do any work for me after that and some other questionable things he said.

I did my first pyro with greased bit and tap, and also had a magnet next to the hole. I still fished a good amount of shavings out from the hole after I was done (with a magnet).

What are your thougts? Drop the turbo or gamble?

I don't think it's a gamble leaving the turbo on. When you crank it up, the turbo is not turning hi revs. Hardly moving if at all. Any remains get blown out by the first exhaust pulse.

This question's been worried about for the last six years I've been around TDR, but I've never heard of a case of turbo damage from drill & tap residue. Has anyone ever seen any damage?

Gary

I've drilled and tapped eight different trucks and never have had a problem with leaving the turbo on.

I drill and tap and then use a magnet and call it good.

Hey John, drillled mine "under #5" and did not have any problems with stuff getting stuck in the turbo. Also did my ol '97 then same way. 145K on the 97 , still going strong, and 97. 3 on the 03. Once again thanks!! ;)

I drilled mine out with a little grease and I left the engine running. I taped the exhaust pipe about 7/8 shut with duct tape. The back pressure blew out the shavings from my drilling and tap job. No problems and the exhaust kept my hands warm on a cool Saturday morning.

Leave turbo on, no worries. .

Now on to the good stuff, Is the TST on? And what do you think of the new controller?!?!?

Well my TST PMCR R49 has been on for while now. I don't know about the controller before, this one looks the same to me. I do love the turbo cool down feature. I assume that it is the same controller, what is different is the what is displayed/set each time you push the grey center button. It is sort of a pain to make hp/torque setting changes compared to the Edge Juice, but I am not complaining.

I haven't mounted it yet, I just received it last night. Thank you ;)

The R49 is just like the older remote. Perfect for me, as I'm mounting it in my ashtray so nobody sees it and the new remote just fits.

Maybe the woman will give me some time this weekend to install the TST and gauges? I certainly hope so.

I've never removed a turbo for the purpose of drilling a pyro hole. Heck, I did mine while it was idling with the exhaust brake on ;)

So I finally got to put the TST in and evaluate it a bit. I was stubborn and decided to drop the turbo. What a pain! Took me over 1 hour to get the 4 bolts loose, pull the drain tube and lower the turbo. After that, all went well. Even the cam sensor was easy, in fact easier than the crank sensor.

Initially I'm not so impressed, but I know the TST is the best. I need the supporting cast, I guess (clutch, fass, turbo, pressure box and injectors :D ).

-My clutch won't hold over 5/4, and even that's pushing it.

-My fuel pressure drops to 0 before I can blink, it seems.

-I was expecting smoke, but the only thing that makes my truck smoke is the BDDL set on tow. Boost comes up and smoke clears. I guess that's a good thing, just not what I expected. Not after seeing TG's dyno vids.

-I wish I ordered the twins flash. The truck is a dog on the bottom, then boost zips to 30-35 psi at about 1500 rpm, then there's a flat spot around 2k, then it comes on again hard until 3k rpm. What's with the flat spot?

-Idle seems a lot rougher than without the box.

So, my truck is waiting until after the holidays for the rest of the package. I hope someone hands me a check for x-mas :-laf

rough idle/noisy engine

i have the ramifier and had to remove it for a trip to the dealer. i never realized how much noisier my motor was with the ramifier! does everyone that has a tst for the 04. 5 experiance more engine noise at idle and throughout the rpm range? i'm selling my ramifier on ebay now so i can upgrade to a tst. i want a chip that i can turn down when i tow my boat!... james :D

KEEP THE RAMIFIER!!!

It stacks great with the TST, and you'll want it so you'll get some fuel below 12psi.

I'm looking to get a Ramifier, MP-8, or SP Diesel's new pressure box. I was at a dyno event in October where a guy offered me one for $100. I should have taken the deal, and am kicking myself now.

If you want a power upgrade that is seamless and smooth, get the Bully Dog Triple Dog. It is truly just like stock, but more hp. It is sooo smooth, it made my motor run better than stock.

The Quad Race is a decent box, too, but the only thing you can stack it with is a VA C3. 2 Duration box.

Overall I know I'll be happy with the TST. I just need to complete the package.

I agree you need a pressure box even with the twins flash, I know. A little pressure helps to lite the SPS66 quicker even with the TST twins. I have an EZ, but wish I had a MP-8 because it can be set to 0/off. The EZ can not be set to off or stock without disconnecting.

I just seen a Ramifier for sale (not mine!) in the DTR classified in 3rd gen engine and transmission for $100 - it's been on there for about 2 weeks...

drilled and tapped mine with no magnet fishing... drilled while engine idling, and tapped with engine dead and tap coated with grease. turbo still fine.

I just learned growing up that I have the kind of luck that always makes me have to do twice the work. I have broken taps, drill bits, etc. while working on my previous cars. Maybe I rushed more as a kid, I don't know, but I now take my time and take all possible precautions so I only have to do a job once.

Some people have better luck, I'm not one of them.

Whatever you get make sure you research it... I thought the Van AAken would be awesome stacked with the TST, not so. I lost 50hp VS the EZ
