I have access to a ECM for a spare/backup - but it looks to be from a '02 SO manual transmission truck, and mine is a '02 HO - anyone know for sure if they interchange with no problems?

I don't know for sure but when I got got my original CaTcher program I sent an SO version I got off E-Bay to Marco & it came back programed for my Ho truck. You might shoot a PM to Bob & ask him.

I already PM'd Bob - but I guess all my needling him over in the Smarty threads has me on his "no speak to list"... #@$%! :-laf

BUT, I suspect, and am hoping that the Smarty (if I keep mine ;)) might reprogram one and work fine - otherwise, I'm not real sure precisely what differences there might be in SO/HO ECM programming...

I'm not sure what the differences are either but there are some. If I remember right, there are a dozen or so different softwares that Dodge used in different years& versions.

If the truck is a stick shift, it should work, but, if your truck is an auto, I can tell you from experience it will not. The experience is based on a '99 model. I have a 99 stick and a friend had a '99 auto. I did all my research, and it was pointing me in the direction I am trying to point you. It worked on the enging, but didn't interface with the auto. To shorten the story a little, my friend wanted to try it anyway, put it on, he drove away, and 2 months later his transmission wasn't working right. Now to make a side note, his transmission was stock and had 125000 mi. on it and from what i was told wasn't serviced regularly.

Simple -

Get a spare '02 SO manual transmission truck. Oo.

Bob Weis

JEEZE - sometimes, with all the various spare parts I have on hand to cover my arse, it SEEMS like I have a "spare truck!" :-laf:-laf

OH, and in answer to the post above this one, both ECM's are for manual transmission - just that one is a SO, and mine is a HO...

At the risk of sounding uninformed, in 02' I thought all you could get was an auto(SO) or the six speed(HO). Am I that lost?

I'm not sure either - what we could use is a table of ALL VP-44 years and varieties, and what will/will NOT directly interchange - sure would make looking for suitable replacements lots easier!

Hi Gary :-laf yes there is an SO 5speed 2002 version out there and the software is a different version number.

To keep the recored straight I did answer Gary's pm.

YUP, Bob's a forgiving and long-suffering sorta guy, and we're still on speaking terms... :-laf:-laf

OH, and the ECM I was checking out has an "SO" printed on it along with the other ESN and related numbers - is that a clue as to whether it's a SO unit - and maybe the HO ones have a HO printed on them - or maybe that really doesn't signify anything one way or another?

(probably expecting too much from Cummins/DC - that would make things WAY too easy!)
