I have the Mag-Hytec rear differential cover.

The question is, at what temp do you guys think it should be at to change out the oil? Coming home from work on a 60 degree day it barely gets over 100 degree's, if it gets that high.

What about the 1/4 of a quart of oil left in the rearend differential housing? You know down in the very bottom of the housing behind the bull (ring) gear. Should I pull the cover or just suck it out? Does it matter or not?

Since I do haul a heavy load once in a while, I do use synthetic 90-140w.

Thanks!

Barry, if it is already synthetic in there than I would just drain it down and fill er up with new, 100 degrees is OK. IMHO ... ... ... . Kevin

The hottest mine has gotten has been while towing and that was 160 and the radiator runs hotter than that. Not with synthetic.

Whitmore... I guess since I am using syn... . I guess going back with the same stuff cant hurt that much, and not draining it totally. I would guess both magnets would get all of the metal or close to it.

Deezul 1... . When I was crossing Oklahoma last summer in July. My rear temps got up to 222 degree's. That was pulling from somewhere in Kansas to OK City. I stopped north of OK City and the temps were running right at 220. That was pulling a 9K 5er.
