So when is the EGR and VGT coming?

I have heard the EGR and VGT were expected after Dec 31, 2003 but I have also heard that October was the introduction time. The VGT sounds interesting, but the EGR has me concerned. Are the two coming out at the same time to offset eachother (ie the EGR reduces power and efficieny, while the VGT improves them)? Are they mutually exclusive or does the turbo somehow have the EGR built in it so that you can't disable it?



Any thoughts?

EGR is expected 1 January 2004. Not sure about VGT.



EGR has little to do with the turbo, and there would be no way to "build the EGR into the turbo".



If you search for EGR in the 3rd gen. forum you'll get some good threads.

Thanks - I did a search previously. I know what the functions of both systems are and just wanted to see if there was any clarification (or solidification) of the introduction time.



What I mean by building the EGR into the turbo was: Is the port used to draw the exhaust gas to be recirculated coming from a port in the turbo or the exhaust manifold? Don't know if you were around when they hardlined the turbo wastegate on the 2nd generation trucks (making it a lot harder to modify), but my question is more or less that... . will they somehow hardline the egt system (ie the point at which they pull the exhaust gas) in with the turbo to make it difficult to bypass?



I also could have sworn that the Dodge website (and video) says Oct. will be the introduction time. Of course, I may be wrong... .



Just trying to decide if want to hold off for an '04 or try to get one of the last '03's.

Well, if they do it like automotive systems, you could just disconnect the actuator (which will probably be electrical) so the valve is on there, but remains closed all the time.



This is, of course, illegal... I was just speaking hypothetically.

with all the feedback these computers get, it may not like seeing an open circute. take some 1. 5mm aluminum plate, and make a "new" egr gasket. after it is installed, you look long and hard at it and think to yourself "dang, i forgot to drill some holes in the exhaust passage "
