ITS A WONDERFUL (diesel) LIFE

D-Max Head Problems

The Duramax?? Some guys seem to have a hard on to find something wrong with the Duramax... who Cares??? So GM gets a cookie for making a diesel that actualy works and might pull something. If it works for them good, its reason for DC and Cummins to give us more of the power the 5. 9 has to offer. We all know its there... . why be worried or insecure that GM might have the "Most Powerful" diesel out there. We know we have a good motor, I feel no need to defend it or find something wrong with the other ones. I just hope they don't make our motors quite. I would rather have a LOUD diesel than a Diesel that sounded like a Worn out gas motor.

I agree with you. I bought the Dodge because it was a Cummins, It had a solid front axle, I love the looks and It ain't a Ford.

That said most of my buddies have Ford to tow their Racers around and they have good luck with them.

The two guys I know with DuraMaxs love them and the and they get their 15,000 5'ers right on down the road.

So I say "To each their own" and enjoy our trucks.

I agree

I'm not bashing the Duramax, and I agree that GM has a good

thing going. Thanks to competition like this, the Cummins will

continue to evolve, making more HP & torque, with lower exhaust

emissions. Same with the Navistar Powerstroke.

Basically when we are driving our Dodge Cummins trucks, and see

a Ford or new Duramax GM pickup, naturally we want to see just

how good the competition is compared to what we have. Of

course I am aware that my stock Cummins will not out accelerate

a Duramax/Allison in a stoplight dragrace, but it may have the

guts to outpull one on a long grade pulling a load (maybe). Then

there are those of us that are Bombed, because we don't want

to get our tails stuffed between our legs for us by a stock truck,

and now the Duramax guys have fueling boxes as well, meaning

the only Dodge that will have a chance is one with stuff like DD3s,

HX-40's, and a fueling box, and probably smoke like a locomotive

:D but if that's what it takes, then more power to ya! :D pun

intended. . ;)

Just today I saw a really nice, new (still had shiny black paint on

the axles and clean inner fenders) white GMC pickup, 4x4 long

bed extended cab (like our QC) and realized that is the kind of

pickup I would be driving if it weren't for the Cummins under the

hood of my Dodge. And just a few blocks from my house, a nice

brand new Ford F350, 4door, 4x4, duallie with beautiful deep

maroon, like a dark cherry color, with gloss black below the belt

line of the truck. I wish I had my camera because I would have

stopped. I thought to myself that I'd be tickled to have a truck

as nice as that one. Of course it would have to be a diesel. . :D

What I'm getting at here is basically that there will always be

guys that are brand loyal, die-hard, would never be caught dead

in a Brand-X truck, and then there are the rest of us that like to

mess with the other guys' driving brand F or G. That is what's so

cool about our country. We have so many choices. They are all

great products, as we are all aware.

My other truck is a GMC Yukon XL with the thirsty Vortec 8100

(496) and 4. 10 gears, 4x4. I love driving it but hate putting gas

in it although right now that is not so bad with $1. 20/gallon for

gas right now, but if it hits $3. 00 gallon then the 11 MPG Yukon

goes Bye Bye and I keep my 20 MPG Cummins. Or if GM gets off

their butts and puts the Duramax in the Suburban, the 496 will

prob go Bye Bye. . ;)

So I posted some links to what the Duramax drivers are saying

about us Dodge drivers. It's all in fun and I'm not trying to start

any brand wars. I'm not one to invade their site and post about

how "good My Dodge is and how crappy their Duralax is" like

some others on this site. That is going a little overboard IMHO.

Keep smiling and "bustin' fuel"! :D

I have to look away from the F250 CREW CAB Short bed 4x4s when i see them. Man that is one good looking truck with a set or ranch hands and 35s on it. I have to repeat this to myself when i see one... Well. . i wouldn't want that truck because it has a PSD in it yeah thats it... and remember that PSD you used to drive at work... yeah thats right I love my Cummins. Then I look back and see how close my back window is and how small the seat is... then it starts all over LOL ;)

Clark, I thought the SD Crew was only offered in the F-350???? Also, I just had to chuckle at your post... you see, I personally think the F-350 4x4 Crew Cab SWB Dually is one ugly truck. I realize you weren't talking about the dually however, the one I see locally sticks in my mind.

..... a short bed dually, who'd a thought?

tgbol, think back about 20 years ago... 99 out of 100 trucks pulling race car trailers to the track were Chevy (and sometimes GMC) 3500 4x2 (every once in a while you'd see a 4x4), 3+3 (i. e. , crew cab) LWB trucks powered with the rat 454. My how times have changed!

Well, I am pretty sure its a F250 although I have never looked directly. But there is alot of Super Doody Crew Cab short box trucks around here. Also there is some short bed chevy dualies. Man those things are nasty, a guy at the racetrack has one with a camper shell on it. Wierd looking

you are right aboout 99 of 100. We were the 1. We had a 1960 1 ton With an enclosed utility bed. Engine was a 394 Olds out to 404, Muncie 4 speed and 3 speed Brownie. It had a 500 rpm drop between gears. Would charge up anything. GCVW weight was 17,000. Fuel mileage was about 7 mpg. You could shut the engine off, push it over a cliff and it probably still would get 7 mpg. Once we trailered a White half-track from Bend Oregon, to L. A.

Talk about different looking, I saw a Ford SD dually reg cab short bed at an RV dealership a while back. It was different but it kind of grew on you.

You gotta at least give Ford credit for building any combination of SD you could possible think of. F250's come in long or short bed, regular, SC or CC configs with or without 4X4. I would bet that 20% of their market share is solely do to the different body styles and configurations available. It is too bad it has taken Dodge 8 years to figure that out... and it still looks like we are going to get a lame excuse for a crew cab. If the cabs are going to be like the new 1/2 ton I am still keeping the PSD... CJ

In general (no pun intended), I like a lot of the GM products. If the Duramax works for those who bought in fine. I do take offense at the marketing of this product by a company who whose cheap imitations in the near past did more to kill a market then to make it competitive.

I agree with COBRAJET, Ford does offer a miriad of body styles. Mostly something for everyone. Plus, the heavier rated 450, 550, etc. models. Keep in mind though, Ford went lacking in certain areas for many years. Note that pre Super Duty, the 350's were two wheel drive, save the Centurian models or the regular F350 cab/chassis.

So, why is it looking like DC is dropping the ball again? Perhaps the current ownership knows all? Maybe an engineering problem with frame length, freeway resonance?

Actually, the new cab would be fine for me. The dogs would like it and it would be easier to throw sacks of feed or seed in when it's raining outside.

PRE 99 F350's came with 4X4 all day from the factory. I owned two of them. There are tons of them running around out there. They have 10. 25's in the rear and Dana 60's up front. The F250's used a Dana 50 setup. The only thing Ford quit making for a while was a DRW F350. This could not be had in either 4X2 or 4X4 from 95-97 from the factory. The confusion may stem from the fact that Dodge does not make a one ton SRW so everyone assumes that Fords one ton is a DRW as well. All of the F350 SRW trucks with 4X4 were 100 percent Ford... . no conversion company at all. The DRW trucks came from Centurion and some other companies who built them as well.

COBRAJET,

Your right. I failed to mention that I was referring to the F350 DRW being 2x4's. Those F350 SRW 4x4's look good with nice set of tires and wheels.

QRTRHRS,

My 96 was real nice. It had 35's on it and a 4" lift. An electricain in a neighboring town still owns it. I see it a couple times a month running down the road. I like that body style better than the current ones. The new ones sure run a lot better... . CJ
