So- who's buying Hummer?

I read on Autoextremist.com that there is a buyer for Hummer. The only hint is that it's an existing truck maker... Potential here.

Whoever buys Hummer needs to put a Cummins under the hood! Now that would be a cool truck (assuming you can fit it under that short stubby hood).

Hummer is essentially dead unless GM does not find a buyer. 2010 is their last model year. Another example where GM had its brains in its butt when making product decisions. I often wondered why they didn't update the H2 to the much better GMT 900 chassis (the latest iteration of the GM light truck chassis) and offer a diesel engine option?!! Nope, instead they just soldiered on with the 10 year old Tahoe chassis design and kept the fuel drinking 6. 2 liter aluminum V8 under that and then charge about double what you can get a good Tahoe for. Hell if I wanted a Tahoe I'd just get a Tahoe which will do the same thing as an H2, except weigh less and tow more!

And the H3? Just a mediocre Chevy Colorado (hell the S10 was a better truck than the lame Colorado/Canyon!) chassis with fancy bodywork.

More GM badge engineering. What a joke!

Hummer could have been great... but no original thinking when into developing them. Love the looks of that H2 though, though! What a shame.

Well, Ive heard that a Chinese company might be buying Hummer. My opinion is that anyone that buys them will go bankrupt. This last couple years of bad economy is just the first round. If youve noticed, even with unemployment increasing every day (oh, excuse me, its getting better. Its not increasing at the same rate that it was), and gas/diesel/oil consumption still going down, gas/diesel/oil has more than doubled in the last couple of months. Not just on speculation, but the oil companies are increasing costs just to try to get the same huge profits they were last year.



Anyone that was really paying attention will probably agree that the re/depression was really caused by the huge increase in the cost of gas/diesel/oil. The continuing huge increases in energy will not only push a recovery out much further than it has to be, I think it will bring us down again. My opinion is that Hummers will become a thing of the past. I think that trucks like the Dodge diesel will continue to sell just because the capability is required for many applications (towing, work, etc). But the Hummer is really to show off.

That is SWEET in the true AMG Hummer, but I was thinking of an H2 when I wrote that post. I guess if anyone has put a Cummins in a Chevy Tahoe we will have our answer. :-laf
